Digital Arborist?

nice. I just picked up quickbooks per my accountants request. I'll get a little more info about this and pass it his way to see if it sinks or floats

for now, ill manage all 25 customers i have with my trapper keeper that i keep in my hello kitty back pack

I'm up for changing my software to anything better than Arborgold but this software is web based, kinda hard to update info on the fly 100% of the time. What if you can't find a wireless connection or are out of range of cell towers?

Y'know, i'm really digging arborgold lately. I manage up to 25 jobs a day including estimates, jobs, invoicing etc. and it does just great. Still a lot to be desired but it sure beats excel spreadsheets or a home made database.

I'll buy your hello kitty backpack for $25. I collect them.

With my smart phone I can manage contacts, calanders, appointments, via my Google account.

And spread sheets can be created by Excel. If it were necessary.

As far as my customers seeing their account, I can't do that. But, if I really wanted to show them a log of work done on their property, I suppose I could do that with other software I alreay have.

As far as fast an creative billing goes. I just started the set up for Google Check out. I'm going to have a Google Check out icon on my web site. If a customer isn't home, I'll simply write a bill and tell them to visit my site, click on the Google Check out icon, and it will be done.

But, for the most part, I knock on the door and tell them I'm done with the work. I get a check, I write a receipt right there.

I'm not a huge company with huge accounts. Wheter I'm a large company or a small company, is this necessary? I'm sure ther is a good reason... I'd like to know why...

The fewer programs that i can use to run my business the simpler the data is to manage.

Jamin, i assume you're using gmail and google sync? I use it and it's awesome. Well, i do have to reinstall gsync once a month because it stops working right for some reason.

I send all my receipts to a bookeeper and i don't touch the accounting software (i learned the hard way that i'm a terrible bookeeper). So i just use gmail and arborgold.

If you are running a one crew show and are always on the truck, then you could run everything on paper. I did that for a while but as soon as i grew to 2.5 crews, that just didn't work. It has to be digital to avoid missing things and to avoid drowing in paper and handwritten wo's etc.

So far i still don't know of software that can handle everything from incoming phone call to tax processing (bookeeping). Arborgold can manage phone calls but i think you need an office assistant answering calls to make that work. No smart phone link.

Marlin: arborgold can link to quickbooks but you need a laptop and mobile printer to make proposals in the field. It works okay, they intend to let you make proposals while walking a property with a touchscreen computer but that method sucks! I tried but was constantly asking a client to repeat things because i couldn't write fast enough.

Someone have a better data management system than what i'm doing?

sorry for the long post, i tried to keep it short.

Im looking for a way to write invoices and proposals in the field from my iphone and sync with the quickbooks account. this might work for that.

I'd be interested in this. I bought an iPad for this exact reason, that way I can cut back on paper waste and email proposals. Even have an app that allows the home owner to sign the proposal with there finger but I have no idea how to link it to quick books.

Let me know what you find. I'll bring my iPad to work Saturday if you want to play around with what I'm using
