Diamond Head Monkeypod with Hitch Hiker

Here's a short vid showing a typical monkeypod pruning job. This was the first time using the Hitch Hiker; overall I really like the HH. Enjoy,

Nice climb. How come you rigged that branch?

I'm going to say, he didn't want to dent the lawn. Nice vid, liked it. Thanks

Hey CreTree, I'm not one to give up easy, so I followed your instructions on the OP's original link...and bingo!

Thanks again mate!

TAS, your climbing skills are excellent for sure, unquestionable.

But it's your pruning out of the interior growth that I find questionable.

I believe the tree needs that interior growth for multiple reasons, one of which is to aid the tree in closing over old pruning wounds. Another is to aid its growth of reaction wood, both tension and compression.

Just an old farts opinion, so please don't get all hostile with me.

Great vid TAS, magnificent tree.

Yup, CreTree taught this old dog a new trick!

Then I go and pizz off TAS by critiquing his work..of course..

He he he... Oh Jomoco... Your just playing your role. Someone's got to do it.

I can't figure it out. I saw Cre's attachment, but when I open it, still says not available on this platform (ipad).

Now I gotta go all the way to the other room to watch on desktop.

Actually it's a easy fix Bixler, just don't use popular songs on your videos and you won't have that problem. For some songs, copyright issues won't let you play the videos on any mobile device, unless the viewer changed his settings on YOU TUBE to the desktop version. If the songs you choose are very popular, sometimes your videos can be blocked in certain countries and in USA as well

Hey Bixler I posted this last week , I hope it solved your problem

Hey there Jon, nice monkey. Lots of fun with the hitch hiker.
I've seen you using the wrench on some of your other videos-which do you prefer?
Jon
Ps this is Dudley's coconut Jon

Hey Jon I was trying to fit a face considering we're on the same island. I like both RW and the HH. I have only used the HH for two days now. The RW tends smoother and has a more natural feel because it is your normal hitch. However, I like how streamlined and compact the HH is. To me they are both excellent tools hard to say which one is better. I can see that the HH will probably become the go to for me though as I find a perfect cord and setup.

Jomo, I understand what you are saying re interior growth. Most of the Monkeypods the standard is to strip out the small interior 'suckas'. The client on this particular job wanted them all removed, sometimes I will try and keep them to aid with branch taper and response as you mentioned.

I will always talk to the clients about the importance of leaving interior sprouts for the trees health.. most of the time they listen, if they don't, at least they know that there is a trade off between the aesthetics and health/safety. Often I can convince them to at least keep a few sprouts, and just thin them.. Tough to tell from the vid, but that tree looked a little lion's tailed.. Didn't like the look of it.. also had a knee jerk bad reaction to ascenders w/o back up.. I just put this vid up a few days ago.. Pete Fixler shows his simple and effective back up.. Vid was shot in 2009...

Looked like the ascender was only used to grab the rope in lieu of his hands while foot locking with the HH-just helping, not life support.
Is ascender back up necessary in this situation?
Jon

No you don't need a back up in this situation, the ascender is only
There to help him grab onto the rope.
The HH is his main working system and it doesn't require a backup,
same concept as the RW.
