Delicate cheekbones

The heat continues in central Texas. Triple digits for weeks now.

To keep the sweat and sawdust off my face I keep an old t-shirt handy to wipe down. After a day of wiping my face my cheekbones feel like they've been burned. The abrasiveness of the cotton shirt is rubbing me raw.

Has anyone found a better face mop? Finding a fabric that is soft but absorbent is a challenge.

We work 6-2:30 so the peak heat is coming as I'm driving home...whew!

Yesterday I drove the lift truck from tree to tree and put on my mesh brimmed hat instead of my Kask helmet. What a difference! I sure won't trade the Kask head protection but this little exposure showed me how much heat is actually contained inside the skid lid. I might be adding a small computer cooling fan to the helmet like I saw in a post a while ago.

Bar Beer towels add a gromet to biner on and plus it looks cool hangin off the harness.

Super absorbent and dries quickly pick your favorite brand.
When I was in the UK I brought home a few, still got my fav
"Moreland"
Hangs nice off the harness in this pick.

X2 on the terrycloth; best after a water rinse to get the abrasive bits washed off. best cooling technique for me is to hang the head down and pour water on the neck and let it rinse the entire skull. then mop with terrycloth

seems ironic to be in singapore at the equator quite comfy; 90ish but an occasional light breeze and tolerable humidity, and regret the need to return to NC due to the 100ish heat. :(

And XX2 on popping off the top whenever possible

I've used some of the faux chamois and the ones that I've used failed. When I do find the right fabric it will have a loop sewn to the corner or a grommet installed.

That would explain how I work with the heat also.

Tom, try a new laundry soap maybe you have an heat related allergy going on there.

I've used well softened wash cloths and brand new ones too.

It's not the detergent. I'm using different detergent than I did a while ago and still abrading. Maybe I'm just too much of a delicate flower...hahahaha!

I have a halo bandana that is amazing for keeping the sweat out of my eyes I highly recomend them. And there cheap and durable. And for the debris on my face I usualy just rinse my head off with a garden hose or warm drinking water.

Tom,

I sweat a LOT ... three tricks I use:
Always get the helmet OFF and switch to a comfortable hat - like you said, whenever possible.
Always blot not wipe - the grit of work causes little scratches with wiping.
And, in the heat this year, I started using a mesh skull cap under the helmet - NO MORE SWEAT IN THE EYES! - works great!

Much less need to mop my face when wearing that skull cap.

This sounds crazy, but it's true... if you can make yourself quit wiping the sweat running down your face - you'll be alot better off!!! Hard to get used to... I still blot my eyes some, but just let it roll off the face. Takes some getting used to, but definitely no chaffing!

Got to agree with Chaser, I rarely wipe of sweat unless it's going into my eyes and even then I just dab it. I figure it'll be an uphill battle trying to keep myself dry....

I sweat more than any human being I have ever met... PERIOD... I tried the Halo Solar Skull Cap with Tail and don't think it works all that well... They get saturated way to quickly for me... I bought a lot of 24 thick sweatbands off of Ebay a month ago and love them... Any athletic kind will work, but try getting the thickest ones you can... And as gross as it sounds, once they get wet(which takes a while, and on me that's amazing)if you didn't bring any extras that day just ring it out and your good for another couple hours... As far as the wiping your face to get the sweat off goes im gonna have to try the NO WIPING
