Dangerous tree

We would call that a "Hail (or hell depending on the outcome) Marry" round these parts. I could spend X amount of time climbing it (or whatever method to rig/cut apart the tree, assuming its even safe to do so) oooor it looks like it could fit here if we flop it.

Careful measuring, proper planning and perfect execution can make a long day seem all the better.

Good job Mark!

Week before last I had a hail marry. Dead pine, nothing terribly special about it, about 1/3 the way up it had a cat face/ cavity running up to near the top, likely from an old lightning strike, the tree was safe to climb. I bid the job to take 3 hours with some added budget. Get there to do the job after a long day of dropping another pine and chipping its mountain of limbs... The original plan was to limb it out to near the top, then drop the top and trunk in 2 equal (near abouts) pieces.

I start looking over the tree a little closer. The reason I planned on stripping the tree out was because felling it would brush it hard against the neighboring trees, and I didn't want to risk breaking the limbs on them. The reason it was going to take 3 hours is because under the tree was fairly well landscaped, had a little dog wood right beside the tree.

I look at the place we could fell it, there is crypte myrtles on one side with an AC unit, the other side is the woods. I take the limbs off the house side of the tree high enough to clear the crype myrtles (roughly 50' away from the tree and 8' tall) then drop the tree close to them to save to forest trees.

Long story summed up, in and out in 40 minutes. The job was about a mile and a half from my house, drove the tractor there, groundy threw the limbs/top onto the trailer, I used loaded the logs in 2 passes (4 logs) then used the landscape rake to rake the yard up well enough to blow the rest into the woods neighboring the house.

ruh roh.. :) i guess that means you'd run my a$$ into the ground. no worries, i'm game! one of my guys who lurks here and occasionally posts said today if we were working with you he'd just stand there and watch with his mouth hanging open.
yeah, what he said!
