CTSP is it hard?

It wasn't a cakewalk for me. There are question topics on the test that aren't covered or alluded to in the test prep materials.

The CTSP is different than any other test or cert test that I've taken.

I'd encourage you to get the prep materials and figure out when the class is offered so that you can be prepared.

The class is coming up in Hartford, CT. in november, also you have to sign up for it and they will send you all the study materials--TCIA $150.00 for members, email them they will send you info on other classes or go to the website TCIA .org, I am going to do it sooner than later, Tom is correct about it being different, a lot of safety issues

I find it harder to live up to than it was to obtain!

read the stuff, but the main thing that surprised me was that it isn't really about safe work practices. It assumes we already know that and begins teaching us to teach others. a good tailgate safety lesson is hard to come by, sad to say. CTSP aims to change that.

Do you know the requirements to become CTSP? I won't be able to take my certified arborist test until April (that will be 2 years experience for me), but I graduate with a degree in Arboriculture in December.

Is the degree enough to get the wheels rolling?

Good luck, Joshua.

I am pretty sure the degree will over-ride the experience

No offense meant to anyone who pursues and attains a degree, but a degree should NOT over-ride experience, ever. Especially when dealing with a certification that encompasses safe WORK practices.

I think that pursuing a degree in Arboriculture says alot, but classroom and book learning should never supercede field experience and OJT.

It's very likely that 2 years experience + the degree or college credits would be enough to qualify. 2 years is nothing to sneeze at.

I do agree with you Tom, the degree is nice but the on the job training can't be beat. you have to get out there and actually do it and see it. It is nothing like the classroom or the book claims.
