Compact Bulldog Bone

Tyler, it is in the back by the boats. It is actually in the fishing room but right by the door to the boat room. There are two guys back there, one does paracord (not him) the other one is RWRope (that's him). They have all kinds of stuff just ask him and then double check it your self. Mine was actually marked as Yale 1/2" static. When I asked to see it I could see the guys marking stuff were wrong. They have a web site also. They buy a lot of short reels and such and then sell them off as surplus so not everything they sell is always listed.

I tried the BDB on 11mm NE Fly today since I already had it in the tree. It worked surprisingly well with the 3/4" bollard. Only went up 45' and down once so it was a very limited trial. While the Fly had all the initial stretch I remember, it didn't have the bounce I expected and climbed nicely. It was my first good rope and I'm beginning to remember why I liked it.

Oceans, here is my 2 minute build of a rough version of a slack tender/keeper for the bone. Ie; as you are pulling slack coming in from a limb walk, to prevent the bone from dropping down and hanging off your bridge. Simple and effective! I could even permanently install the tether in the upper holes and just quick attach the prussik with a key chain biner or quick link to allow for quick on/off in the need of recrotching the line. I wish I had a Kong duck to try this with......

Like an o-rig, minus the "o".

Jeff that is a good solution for using the Bone on a doubled rope. (see my video early in this thread, page 5) and If you extend it out to arms length, you can pull slack down through the Bone as it self tends.

Eric has some other crazy idea cooked up, but this is simple, and done with stuff most of us already have laying around.

I must have missed page 5. Lol

I've put my bone on the shelf for awhile and just went back to the wrench . I may sale it or maybe send it back to Gordon to get milled or something , who knows I just don't want it to be a paper weight like so much of my old gear. I really like the concept and the ability to install and un- install on the rope so quickly but I just had so much drag it was really frustrating.

I'm at the Ohio Chapter Conference amongst some true Rockstars. I clipped some footage of an Effer Boom assisted removal on which the climber was using a Bone. He went from DdRT in the crown to SRT on the spar with seamless presicion. I will post an edited vid as soon as possible.

I cannot wait to get home and make the DdRT adaptation for the Bone. It's very exciting.

Jeff, it was great to see you post about your tending system. Thanks for sharing that and welcome to the Bones Brigade!

...but I just had so much drag it was really frustrating.

I'm still not understanding this at all. With Tachyon 11.5, Platinum 11.5 and Yale 11.7's, I do not get even close to an objectionable amount of drag on ascent. Other's are happily using Vortex 12.7.

The only way I can get drag, is to have my tending method and saddle bridge set up so that the
BDB is 'stretched' between them which keeps the biner loaded on the bone and therefore the lower arm is kept in a position that drags. The biner/lower arm needs to be 'unloaded' for drag free ascent.

I may try that worthaug , because with my tachyon CE colors its no bueno, Even one of my guys tried it without me mentioning a word about . He said that thing is really hard going up on ascent, he normally uses a runner.

I've also used it with the 5/8" bollard, but just on removals, and it self tailed beautifully, but I never had my full weight on it, so I don't know if it would creep or not. But, there was absolutely no drag.

Just played around with it at my house, it felt a bit better , put the large bollard on with kernmaster . I will give it a go next week , im starting to think I just like my wrench the best, heck I dont even use my rope runner anymore one of my guys borrowed it lol

Wow, what a bummer! The BDB is such a simple tool. It is frustrating that non of us have been able to figure out why yours has a lot of drag on ascent yet all of ours, the rope just falls through.
