Colorado TCC

..... and now it is over. It was a good time. Placement in the Master's was Charlie Wagner 1st, Luke Glines 2nd, and Bill Mattor 3rd. Bill had some tough luck and fouled gear kept him from finishing the tree but Luke and Charlie both did it well. Until the results were announced I really did not know who had won-I'm not even certain who scored highest on my own score sheets. They approached the tree differently. I thought that Luke chose the best TIP for working the whole tree but it required him to take a big swing and then lanyard in and scramble for one station and then a big swing back. Charlie tied in for the that station and then worked the tree with some rather flat rope angles and a less than optimum recrotch. Given the different approaches they each made points in different ways-One thing is for certain both men are great climbers.

It was a great setting in Washington park and some great climbing was exhibited by the whole field. I guess I'm on at least the ten year plan to match skills with the top three and only a few points separated 4th form 8th place.
I was puzzled by Charlie's recrotch as well but was not watching from very close and it was getting pretty dark by the time he wrapped things up. What kind of a redirect did he then use on the limb walk?

Yep. Charlie had to throw down nearly in the dark. The Master's was about 2.5 hours late.

Gotta give a shout to m buddy James Melton for putting up the fastest F.L. for the day! Way to go James!

And, Fred. You gotta stay out of my town!

I've found that that style redirect does not work bc the movement of the rope (one side up, one side down) walks the redirect into less than ideal positions. If the sling were long enough and the situation ideal, it could be employed, and a comp might be the place for that. Working a tree, I have found it to be no good at all.
