Climbing with face shield

Anyone use the Peltor face shield/ear protection kit while climbing? I am trying to streamline the amount of gear in my truck, and like the face shield option when I'm on the ground. I'd like to lose the spare hardhat and use the Vertex with the Peltor system for everything; wondering if any climbers have experience with the face shield in the tree, good or bad. Thanks,

-Tom

I wear the Pacific Helmet with the Peltor face shield on the ground, in the bucket and up in the tree. I like it. Of course, like just about everything it seems, to snag on small limbs every now and then. However, I broke mine the other day and it felt strange without it.

Tom, both my wife and I use the Petzl Vertex Vent system with forestry visor and muff. Pretty nice package. It is a bit cumbersome getting use to but it has everything you need whenever you need it.

I do find it irritating in tight trees, but there are lots of things I find irritating that I do anyway. Guessing that's just part of life.

Thanks for the info, guys. Just looking for ways to have less gear in my truck. I'm going to give this a shot and leave the spare hard hat/ear protection in the tool shed! :)

I use the Petzl Vertex with the jonsered muffs and face shield. I take the face shield off in the tree, slide it back in on the ground when I want it, best of both worlds for me.

I use the Peltor forestry kit with a Vertex. The kit pops off pretty easy for doing prunes and stuff without a chainsaw.

Two things though:
1) The earmuffs will grab your rope sometimes, just be prepared for it. It's a rude surprise when you're all stretched out, off balance and have no free hand to un-grab it.
2)Don't leave the muffs in the sun in a vehicle, the soft rubber boots will come unglued.

One of our competitors at the NEC-TCC last weekend got his rope stuck in an earmuff during the speed climb. That looked a little aggravating! Again, thatnks for the info, guys!

big fan of the face shield, with safety glasses and the shield, nothing gets in your eyes. it gets snagged occasionally, but its alright, no big deal.

I am not a big fan of face shields up in a tree.
They tend to get stuck in every single branch... :-)
I wear glasses all the time. Once you get used to them you can't climb without them. ;-)

I am all about my pacific helmet and peltor screen and muffs! I use the screen all the time (with glasses). On the ground, in the tree...backing the truck

But seriously, I am stoked about the protection.

You can get a smoke lens.

Not sure where in the US you would get one.

The manufacturer is at www.kask.it

Work helmets are at Kask helmets

Aint this the same helmet Riggs talked about?

I've committed to climb with the shield and glasses to minimize the crud in the eyes (the whole point of them). They will snag until you've adapted to the habit of giving them the clearance they need. It's a matter of using them all the time until it become second nature and without them a strange feeling.

Has anyone here tried these...(attached)

Seem nice n streamlined compared to big mesh visors, but obviously they are more jusy eye protection than full face.

That will be my next purchase for a new helmet. It looks like it won't snag much at all.

Check out Abby Pro! I don't know if they know this but their advertised price is half of Gustharts.

Don't let them know that either! Just order one fast before they find out?

But, the price of Abby Pro has them for would be about $74US dollars (excluding shipping). That is not bad at all. I believe the shipping would be about $20 dollars. Heck, for the value, it blows away the $115 I paid for my Vertex Vent with muffs!
