Climbing saw lanyard

When hooking my climbing saw's lanyard back onto my harness when in the tree, I find it a hastle to hook and unhook. Thought about a larger non-locking caribiner or something, but not sure. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I use kong paddle biners on the sides of my saddle. I only have one complaint. They have a sharp cut-out in the nose. I don't notice it until I clip a tenex sling into it. The strands of the rope snag on that hook when I go to unclip it. Every time it happens, I tell myself to file the nose down to eliminate the hook. Then I forget. Maybe I'll do it right now.

For the last three years I have been using a regular dog leash for my climbing saw. I have a sequoia now and it hooks sweet when replacing saw back to harness to move to another position. Have'nt had any problems with saw breaking away and I drop it down regularly tuff dog snap. I have tried beners but they did'nt work for me , I only use them on big saws which are usually hanging. Paul.

I have a screw lock biner through a loop on my saddle. I use a bungee saw lanyard. I put the large steel ring of the bungee lanyard in the biner, then a #2 or 3 brass boat snap then screw it closed. The small steel ring near the saw clips into the boat snap with no effort and comes out just as well. I've never had an accidental release.

Alright, thanks for the input guys. Definately going to try some of your ideas. I just find it a bit of a hassle when I need to clip it quickly if and when I am bombing a top or something. Then again, I guess I could just let it hang and grab on to the tree real quick. Thanks again.

What harness?

It's a weaver, floating D. Don't laugh, it's what I've started with and still works pretty good for me. I would like to invest in a newer one, but for now, it works. Have had it for about 6 years now. The clip is just a bit small I think, but haven't really tried any others. Maybe I should. Going to "New England Grows" in February, probably a good place to try some.

Forget what its called but it is a small strap with two non locking biners on each end I got at river sports for like 15 bucks..remove one biner and buy a small d ring type screw link..(bad terminology)..can't remember for the life of me what its called...from home depot and attach to gear loop at back of harness. You will probably like your saw better hanging off the back of your harness. I always feel like my saw is in my way on my side! If you are worried about dropping your saw while taking big tops then the longer bungee laynard is the way to go so you can drop saw if you need to grab the tree quickly! I wish I could figure out how to load pics from my droid! I would show you! Bonus is you end up with an extra carabiner for whatever!

Ok, the quickdraw, will def. look it up. Thanks a bunch guys. I do like the idea of the saw hanging off my back side much better. I am fairly new to this website, and everyone seems much friendly than some of the other websites. Thanks again!!

Don't use a screw lock either. I had one on the end of my lanyard to connect it to the saw and the thing open up on me. My 200T dropped off the lanyard because of it!

I use a non-locking bent gate biner on the back to hook the end of my lanyard on and a large Caritool on my side. It's easy to clip into and out of but if need I can drop the saw onto the rear biner.

Never had a problem dropping mine...since the saw is behind me rarely will it be in a situation for the carabiner to be opened then the saw lifted out of the biner. Several of my buddies do it this way! It is possible tho so you might want to take banjo's advice! Don't want to be the one you blame cus you dropped your saw 60 ft aloft! Never been an issue for me tho.

That's a nice setup banjo..I like it..I've just never liked the bungee laynard..I like being able to manuever without the laynard attached..and I know you can just unclip it but its more hassle for me to have that long laynard to catch on limbs..but it is a good idea and a nice setup!
