climber hit in face while doing a removal

I talked to a fireman today, he said it was on a different shift but he had a full account of it. The reason they used a ladder instead of a truck was overhead lines between the tree and possible truck positions. They have a rule of not pulling off of known surfaces due to possible ground stability issues so basically no offroading.
They installed a pulley and their rope above for the rescue but it wasn't in the pic, one of the firemen is a climber on the side with rope experience so he was the one up the ladder.
The injured climber was working for a legit company, with no bucket. One of the guys on the ground free climbed up to the unconscious climber and kept in in a stable upright position and stayed with him until rescue arrived. Climber was bleeding from the ears and had heavy lacerations, the firemen said that last he had heard the climber was still in a coma with skull fractures.
It sounded like the guy that free climbed up the tree may have saved the injured climber's life. It took a big set to go up the tree to the other guy with no saddle or anything

Didn't hear anything about that part. I guess that was a "you had to be there" moment. From the pic I assumed the limb that is hung up at the base is the one that hit him and with no rope on it, must have been a scary sight

Talked with a waitress that knows the home owner and says the climber is recovering. Fractured skull. No more details in the paper or anywhere else.
