Hey guys so this will be my first time cleaning my positioner....plan on using some mineral spirits. Just wondering what you guys use to clean yours. Also I should lubricate it right. I think so but not positive if so what do you use?

The first pine I had to climb this year was just spitting sap. It was terrible I've cut plenty already this year this was just the 1st I had to actually climb.i forgot my damn fruition saver so my rope and hitch were binding. Lol just pissing me off. Glad I knew better to use an old lanyard. I always use an old hipstar flex with a positioner or 10mm snake bite with a trango cinch for pines. Easy shit to clean.

Thanks Chris

Mineral spirits should work fine, I just hope the next day will be a pineless one and don’t take the time to clean things. As far as lubrication I may squirt a little graphite powder in there, maybe every 6 months. I just replaced the cam after 3 years of ft use.

Yeah it was so bad I just ended up throwing my lanyard away. Luckily it was old and I had wesspur make me up 4 when they were doing there free sewn eye promo. I took advantage of that shit. Just put the positioner on geko lanyard after cleaning. I usually use my trango cinch on pines because it's alot easier to clean. Idk why I decided to use that other 1 today. But all good. Using the cinch on every pine from now on. Hahaha

Liquid Teflon is MUCH better than any graphite product. Graphite gets gummy and messy
This is true, it’s also Teflon, in a conveniently skin absorbent form. Which is nasty.

Not sure about your local stores, I have had this tube for many years.

Do as you choose. Teflon is NOT an oil or oily.

There has been lots shared about lubing gear. Its worth spending some time in the Archives.

The Teflon recommendation came from a friend who operated a canyoneering guide service based in Colorado. Tey took drives all over the Four Corners.

Right. Thanks. And yes I will search around the archives aswell do a little research. I was heading to the next job after cutting this pine. That was just expelling sap like almost never seen before. It was crazy. A Pilated wood pecker made these huge holes and that's wear the sap was coming out of. The lanyard was so bad I just tossed it. It was old and a little to short.

What are you lubricating on a positioned? Just the swivel? I wouldn't put anything anywhere else.
Yeah the swivel..also the cam? I cleaned it with mineral spirits. I would think you'd want to lubricate it? Idk for sure that why I started this thread.

I'd just clean the cam. Don't want any lubricant to work it's way to the working face of that. Just my opinion though...

Right..I get what you mean. Yeah I'm not sure what to do. Lol that's why I'm asking.
But yeah all I've done so far is clean it. So Ill leave it like that for now and see what others say. Thanks for the advice

Yeah @ATH after cleaning it. I threw it on a 12ft geko lanyard I had wesspur make up. I just throw a petzl open snap hook on the end. I like to be able to easily open and hook it up 1 handed. That's why I don't normally use a carabiner on the end. I do sometimes but usually a pain. But the positioner ran so smooth on the geko lanyard. Can't wait to put it to use tomorrow. I may get a wire core cam for it so I can put it on my Maxi flip 11.7 flip line. That's a great flip line from wesspur.

What line do you use in the positioner? Or is there another secret to stretching a cam that far? I get six months max. I’m happy with it, but definitely cool with getting more life per cam.

It has seen Yale blaze, blue moon, and new England tachyon. Having a smaller body might have something to do with it.

I use a product called de-solv-it. For carabiners and something small like a positioned, just fill a talenti ice cream jar, drop the piece in, cap it, and come back later. Gives carabiners that perfect snap when they come out. It hangs on a bit like a lubricant for a few days of use. Then you can add something else if needed. I had a couple carabiner get gummed up with pitch. After soaking them, they still have that perfect “plink” when closing. I’ve used it for rope runners, akimbos, even rope fiber.
