Cleaned out the clutches. Saws run prim now.

I went through my saws, and cleaned out the shoes that go over the clutches. I scraped and buffed them out with a mini buffer on a dremel. I sprayed brake cleaner in them all. They all have a lot more giddyup today.

I also cleaned out the filters, and adjusted the idles to compensate for the newly cleaned clutches.

I need to do this more often. I thought my saw carbs and crank cases were wearing out.....badly.

Are you using veggie oil for your bar lube? I've had to go through and clean out the crud on a couple of saws. Afterwards there was a bit smoother acceleration.

Mainly, though, it was to make sure that the chain-brakes worked properly.

No, but how much money are we saving with the veggie oil, eh? I've heard lots of word about it, but never heard the price difference from anyone.

What looks like builds up inside of the clutch cover is carbonized chips and oil. It's just stuff burning up in there I have to assume.

I think that the brake cleaner after scraping out the thick junk gives it the new quality grip again, so the acceleration's up and the power down in the cut is back. This has to be part of the routine maintenance now. I wish I already knew how to maintain carbs.

I've been using veggie oil. Without wearing a mask, there's just no way to keep from ingesting it. That bar oil is all over any dust you might be breathing during the day, and while it may be a small amount, it's still there.

Not to derail...now back to cleaning clutches!
