IMHO the Climb Right pads are some of the worst on the market and you can certainly do a lot better. Caddy's. Big Buck Velcro's. Buck Super Wraps with the steel inserts. All great options.
Been climbing in Mallory/Opsal/Caddy pads for 40 years. In that time I have tried just about every other pad known to man, but the Caddy still remains king in my book.
Wespur always has Caddy pads in stock in both the narrows and the regulars. I have skinny legs like a crack smoking emaciated old chicken, so I run the narrows and couldn't imagine life without them. http://www.wesspur.com/spurs/spur-pads.html
Some old Mallorys I have been climbing in for over 30 years. Their getting cleaned up and some new rubber installed and they will be ready for another decade of service!
I'll go with the Caddy then. I know that Wesspur carries them and so does Treestuff (Sherrill). But with the value of the loonie lately trying to procure in Canada.
Opsal is actually located in Surrey, B.C.
Thanks for your input, I highly values your opinion.
The Climb Right pads will fit the STEIN climbers (because CR makes them) but I don't think they'll fit anything else. They're pretty awful, and dig into your shin bones. I put Super Pads on my Climb Rights when I had them, but have moved on to Gecko CF climbers, since then.
Like @rico said, you can do a lot better than the CR pads. The Opsal and Big Buck pads are a lot better.
Gap Arborist Supply stocks both the Climb Right and the Opsal pads, and I believe both will fit Klein’s. Call Ray to confirm, but I believe I was told both would fit my Klein’s when I was pad hunting last year.
You know, I seem to remember that the CR climbers used a steel shank sleeve that was pretty much like all of the old school, steel climbers... so, you're probably right... they may very well fit. The CR climbers were aluminum, but the adjuster sleeves were steel, and that's what the pads attach to.
