Choking flipline solution?

I've often thought the Zillion would be a great device for srt when combined with a rope wrench. Samelove as zigzag but without the drama of wworrying about the swivel. Just a thought, never tried it.

I've found it doesn't slip in single-leg if you've got it on a softer, more spongy rope that gives in to bite a bit more, like the Yale 11.7's, Tachyon, etc. It's the stiffer lines like static kernmantles and smaller diameter ropes that it slips on. It slipped a little on 11.1 Tendril, but my 11.7 luna holds fast (though it drops/jerks inconsistently when you try to lower yourself in single-leg mode regardless of rope diameter, which is why the manual recommends a Munter hitch below the device, fulfilling the purpose of a rope wrench.)

Edit: I'm not sure the zillon would work well for that SRT application with a wrench. A few things would be prohibitive...for starters, there is one less friction link (or 'zig', so to speak) on the zillon than there is on the zigzag, which gives it a less "wide variety" of variable friction. Less minute adjustment, so to speak, and it's pretty awkward with a Munter. The other issue, is that because it's designed to have slack be pulled to the side the way we typically do for a lanyard, the pulley actually prevents the rope from being pulled straight down through the device. If you try to put the free end in a foot ascender beneath the zillon, it pulls it at a funny angle and just doesn't track well. Maybe it could be played with to work well, but the one-less-link alone would give me pause.

I skimmed. Maybe mentioned by Merle or in follow up. Merle is referring to the Circle of Death, when you have the back of the saddle completing the circle which holds you to the tree, by going from D to Dring. Attach on the bridge.

JB Holdway's 'Cinched Lanyard Without Side Loading' video gave me ideas, so I tried this (not recommended):

The reason I don't recommend it is because this is what it does to your wire/steel core flipline (puts kinks in it - the bend radius in the flipline are too tight/small). I only post this message as this sort of tie-in gave me options/ideas on a rope lanyard or srt tie-in (I'll post on a new thread).

Back again:

How crazy would this be then? - It works.
Clove Hitch - Rope Snap on Flipline for Safety.

It uses up slightly more Flipline length than a straight choke, though eliminates the need for a steel biner. This does not adversely kink the Flipline to it's detriment (unlike post above). Keeps Flemish Eye Splice clear of bending on cambium.

Probably be better to tie it this way though (not tested on tree yet): Clove Hitch again, just with the Rope Snap end going beneath the weighted Flipline (instead of above). Table leg not life support. ;)

IMGP0013.webp I use a RockD stainless all the time in srt choke with my lanyard. If you manage to break this thing I would imagine you would have more problems than just falling out of a tree .It makes a good throw weight for a advancing your climb lanyard but hurts when it comes back.
