Chainsaw Vs. Handsaw?

I use both for pruning and removals. While pruning, i prefer to use the handsaw, but c'mon, some limbs would be ridiculous with the handsaw. For the removals, I would use a chainsaw for all but the smallest and most delicate parts, IE around the wires, glass etc.

I like the look of the Silky Ibuki, but day-umn, it'll be a cold day when I shell out $70 for a handsaw. Fanno's got my money till those $3,000-$5,000 jobs start rollin in...

I would suggest a Zubat before Ibuki. and Silky is worth the bucks in my book. I have a fanno, in the bottom of my parts bin. My Zubat is a great little saw and holds up well even considering the price.

once a Zubat, never again anything else! i think the best all round saw. The Ibuki is to heavy and the teeth setting is to coarse.

I think because of the rubber handel silky gives you the smoothest ride. I would'nt hesitate to spend good money on a piece of equipment i use everyday. I buy reserve blads in bulk for the zubat and use about 10 per year, i want that saw to be really sharp all the time. The old blads i give to my family or friends and they think they're great! The money i save out on chainsaw petrol/oil/chains pays easily for the blads.

I started feeling that the hansaw was a lot safer than the chainsaw and got a little lax. Rotating from one cut to the next I swung my zubat (word, definitly a sweet saw, worth every penny) right across my climbing line and it sliced half way through it. If I had been hangin with all my weight on the rope, I might have hit ground, who knows.

I also really like the silky gomtaro pro-sentei, its small and it has two different teeth sizes. It is great for pruning ornamentals. the small teeth don't rip even the smallest of cuts.

I have a feeling that if I came across a ton of money I would waste it on buying the entire silky saw collection. They are so cool. Speaking of handsay vs. chainsaw. Anyone handsaw vs. circular saw? I can rip through a 4x4 with the Ibuki (no good for climbing) faster than you can plug in a circular saw.

One problem I have with myself with handsaws, especially toward the end of the day is that I have gotten lazy and not made the bottom cut as deep as I should have. this has resulted in some embarrassing tears. cutting upside down can be akward.

You can get a zubat for about $60, and that includes the scabbard. A fanno plus scabbard will run you close to $50. Believe me (and the rest of us silky converts), it's worth ten bux extra.

Agreed. You just gotta ignore the price.

When I ordered my first Zubat, I just pretended that I was a Rock Star.

It didn't hurt a bit!

I've got a Sugoi and a Zubat. I prefer the zubat for its scabbard size and weight. However the sugoi cuts like crazy and is a bit longer, with the zubat sometimes I find with too much enthusiasm I get premature withdral from the kerf......wait a minute.....that ONLY with the zubat /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Buddinghtree,
According to what I was told, you can only get rid of "Stranger" by exceeding a certain number of posts.
I was new and it seemed like forever before mine changed. I personally think this name is inappropriate and even a bit excluding sounding and maybe should be changed to something like "Newbie" or something more inviting.
My two cents.

nice arsenal of weapons there my friend!

I think we could incorparate some sort of handsaw compition to the ITCC, instead of the proposal of the chainsaw compition, you could have a ARS turbocut Vs. Silky show down!!! of Fanno or whatever, and get them to sponsor?!

I vote for that! No emissions (well, depending on what they serve at the snack bar . . .), no noise, just raw wood-cutting power. Now we just have to convince silky to pony up the sponsorships tha Stihl has provided for years.
