chainsaw pants (again)

May not be the same material, but I put my Phanner climbing pants in the drier on low heat. Tag says no...no issues to date.

No never done that. All open air drying.
No need to with a collection pants that could dress a whole platoon.

I've been wearing the same single pair of Phanners every work day for over a year and a half. I wash them 2-3 times a week, on average. I use the drier on low without issues, BUT I kinda feel like I shouldn't have said anything in the first place...There's a HUGE difference between Stretch Air pants and pants designed for stopping a saw blade. Take it with a grain of salt, Mac.

Yeah, if they shrank a little I wouldn't worry, I'm just worried about the chainsaw protection. They smell pretty bad after a day in the heat though. And I only have the one pair so far. Fall and winter are coming. Hopefully the smell will die down.

when they air dry they stay wet for a while and they smell all funky. Then add a week of 8 to 12 hour days worth of sack sweat, willow and poplar dust, and god knows what else. They smell rank. Maybe it's just me. Yeah I wash em once a week, try to remember to put borax in with them. I'd rather have the protection than smell nice if I have to choose.

As far as the rank smell thing goes...I wash and dry my clothes pretty regular. Less in the winter, more in the summer. I just find it strange how I can put them on all nice and clean on a summer morning and less than 5 minutes into actual physical work all that clean smell is gone. It's as if my sweat triggers something in the clothes and they immediately get funky again.

I switched from a Kask helmet with full foam contact pads to a Petzl helmet with suspension straps just so I wouldn't pass out from the sheer stench when I put it on.

I'm wondering if you could hang your pants on a rack in front of a good sized fan for most of the evening after you wash them. Maybe enough moving air could help dry them out. Cool air is coming...got a wood stove?

"sack sweat"....

After that comment about the "ball sac", gonna have to say, call in the portland. lol

Chainsaw pants will never smell good. Especially if you climb in them. I have found no cure. I am positive that clients move upwind on a regular basis.
My only solution has been to buy more then one pair... Soon after spending another 300 dollars you will realize that you now have more than one pair of nasty chainsaw pants. I try to rotate them through the days, but rarely wear them on pruning days. Simply gross and hot. I also sweat like a creature from another world. Soaking wet really fast.
The best wash method I have used is soaking them with a hose, inside and out repeatedly. Putting them in the washing machine is fine as long its not yours...Gonna try a pressure washer next.

Thanks Chep, apparently it's just us Vermints who sweat like a soaker hose and make our safe pants smell like the business end of a goat. I always pack a pair of work pants to change out if I'm doing anything not involving a chainsaw. I'll have to try the hose down method. Nice to "meet" another from VT. You going to TCIA this year, I haven't decided yet>

What about soaking in a good antibacterial soap?
and if that doesn't work you can always say the neighbors dog just came by and left a steamy dump over there, that might throw them off your trail
