Climber/Pruner
Job Summary:
The Tree Climber/Pruner works with the Central Park Tree Crew to maintain the Park’s trees. The job of a Tree Climber/Pruner is to prune and remove trees as directed.
Job Description:
Reports to: Tree Care Supervisor
Department: Horticulture
Position Number: 3496
Status: Full-time/Non-exempt
Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00 am – 3:30 pm
Summary of Essential Job Functions
·Maintaining a safe and controlled work zone
·Reports to the Tree Care Supervisor
·Perform all required ground, climbing and aerial lift duties as directed
·Operating an aerial lift truck
·Demonstrates proper application of approved knots
·Pruning trees in accordance with the latest revision of the ANSI A300 (part 1) pruning standards
·Arboricultural operations in accordance with the latest revision of the ANSI Z133 safety requirements.
·Tree removal with proper rigging techniques
·Brush chipping and operating of a chipper
·Operating a stump grinder
·Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
·Equipment maintenance
·Emergency storm response
·Snow removal
·Participation in Special events in The Park
·Operation of manual, power driven and motorized equipment
·Learns and understands the use of a tablet computer for recordkeeping
·Ability to identify/ learn to identify the trees and shrubs common to The Park
Minimum Requirements
·Minimum of two years of related experience operating an aerial lift truck
·Minimum of 2 years of experience climbing with a rope and saddle
·A valid Driver’s License
·Must possess a class B Commercial Driver License which must be maintained for the duration of employment
·ISA Certified Arborist or ISA Certified Tree Worker Climber Specialist / Aerial Lift Specialist Certification. Certification must be maintained for the duration of employment.
Abilities Required
·Ability to work effectively with others
·Ability to solve problems and achieve common goals
·Takes the Initiative
·Desire to achieve individual, team, and organization goals
·Spirit of teamwork and cooperation
·Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
·Willing and able to work outdoors all year round
·Ability to stand, crouch, and climb to use ladders and perform various types of manual labor
·Sufficient strength and manual dexterity to operate power equipment
·Sufficient reading ability to understand simple instructions and schedules
·Ability to perform simple tasks independently after being given assignments
