carrying a ropeguide

ok, I finally gave up and tried the rope guide, and I am a believer. Now it must come with me everywhere. Only problem is the 10ft is awkward to carry up into the tree. What is the best way to wrap/coil/attach to harness until you're ready to set it up?

I recently started experimenting with a Rope Guide made by Rich H. I just tie it to the end of my rope and pull it up when I need it!

arbor purse sounds like a good idea, but I'm not going to call it that at work. The less pulling of kit up into the tree the better. Murph, it will soon be time for the 'climber's picnic'. Maybe we can add an event to judge the best purse!

Sounds good Jeff, Let's figure out when. Jimmyq I call the ditty bag an arborists purse. I suppose you could make it prettier if one were so inclined.

I clip all the metal rings and guides into the pre-installed krab on my TreeMagic, that keeps it fairly short and out of the way. Or failing that as others have said get it sent up when you reach your TIP.

I have the roped verion and have found the best way is to chain hitch the rope length with a succesion of marlin spikes I suppose, and then pass my pear shape petzl krab through the last 'link' of the rope and also through the pulley, ring and retreiver clevis thingy!!. It sits very snag free but with the keyless krab design the whole lot wiggles off easily with one hand!!!! erm....ooerr!!!

If I tail my climbing rope into the tree I slide the rope/webbing through about half way and clip things together. This all tails along behind me off the left side of my harness. If I enter via SRT I haul my climbing line rope bag up into the tree. Sometimes I set the RG and hang the bag off my harness.

ok, I've found ways to deal with carrying the thing, now how can I do a controlled removal from a tree - can I use a throwline somehow to control the descent? I was over ashphalt today and poor ropeguide bounced into it and was scratched! Piss me off!

yes, the little popper is cool for extracting the thing, but it just comes crashing down. . . I'm thinking of a friction saver and the throwline trick to control descent.
