Carabiner gate gripper

I've seen several guys using what appears to be foam rubber "rings" on the locking sleeves of lanyard carabiners which improve grip and make one-handed operation much easier. Somehow I've never thought to ask them about it directly.

Does anyone know what specific product is used and where to buy it?

I've tried a variety of o-rings and rubber bands. These work pretty well but tend to roll over / travel on the gate and eventually create a safety hazard. The wider foam ring looks like it would stay in place better.

Take a piece of Big Shot tubing and one of these tools:

i've used needle nose pliers too but they aren't as easy as the lobster bander.

I keep forgetting about BigShot tubing. I need to change out a BS pouch. I'll keep the tube with my bander.

stuff's used in the medical industry a lot. That's a great idea @JeffGu. I have a couple that are a PITA to manipulate. BTW Jeff, I like your old avatar better. @cbachmann thank you for posting this thread. I learned something new today.

Closing the loop.... I tried a 1/2" segment of big shot tubing. So far so good. Thanks for the input, folks.
