Can we talk about this face cut?

not much chance of having an intelligent conversation here. Sales is only part of the equation
Sales isn't part of the work. It has nothing to do with the trees. I'm quite capable of intelligent conversation. I really enjoy it.
@JeffGu I bet that's a ruler with a bunch of tiny inches on it, but I can't read it because it is so compressed.

You guys keep talking krapp

I'll keep putting money in the bank.

didn't start work til after lunch today

Did you not get enough loving as a child? Weened from the boobie too early? Hung like a bull mosquito? Too much sand kicked in your face? What exactly is ailing your psyche Daniel?

Had he placed the gap on the opposite side of the notch and left more holding wood on that side would it have helped to steer the tree left of the swingset?

In principle, however with dead trees assume no it won’t.

With short grain possibly not.

Roped to pull it in the direction required - almost guaranteed depending on roping abilities.

Bad/lazy cutting techniques assume no it won’t. Dutchman tear and pull the hinge so introducing weaker hinge dynamics which can be helpful or not.

What he has done here is create an undercut which will cause the far side hinge to pull earlier than the hinge on the nearside because of the earlier closing of the undercut on the far side (think sizwheel here)...In theory he could have made this cut in a feeble attempt at swinging his top to the right?

But when you look at the next picture you can see that he left a large portion of his hinge on the far side which would in theory have pull his top to the left? Confused? Me too. Regardless the end result is a smashed swing-set. Oops...

If anyone in the Penn/Philly area would please go give Daniel a few lessons on proper saw sharpening I would gladly pay you for your services....
From this photo looking at the stem on the ground it is not perpendicular to the apex of the hinge it appears to the left.

Can you please explain what camera angles and pictures of checks has to do with your laziness, poor judgment, extremely subpar sawmanship, a damaged maple, and a smashed swing sets Daniel?

Speaking of lies Daniel, I find it utterly amazing that after a year of discussing this simple little removal you continue to massage your ever changing storyline in an attempt to make your laziness, poor judgement, gawd awful sawmanship, and damaged property somehow more palatable...

a week ago I had my boys help me bring down two large dead pines in our backyard, not as large as Daniels, but I used a plumb line to confirm that they were leaning awkwardly. The first was leaning towards the pool pump, so I set a pull rope (with my pool pole) and went out and made a 90 degree turn with the pull line around a tree in the woods, so that both boys could apply steady pressure at the right moment, and still be out of any potential fall zone. This first tree fell just as desired, however the second dead pine was near an old swing set on the right and had a large healthy tree nearby on the left of my intended drop zone. We set up the pull line as before and I proceeded with my face cut and then the back cut, but even with steady pressure on the pull line the pine fell against the healthy Sweet Gum and then broke the pine in the middle and the top folded back and fell on top of the bottom half. The swing set survived Looking at my hinge I see that it is wedge shaped with the thicker portion of the hinge on the left side and no hinge left on the right side. I would post pictures, but am afraid Rico would forensic my wood chips. : )

Oh I'm pretty sure the man who created and builds the amazing BDB has the ability to sharpen a saw!

Our newest one is pretty gutless, but the 201 prior to the stupid computerized crap was wonderful. A minor muffler mod and re-tune and it would run with any 200.
I should shorten the bar on the echo. I hear they're sweet with about an 8 on them.

I'm not really on this thread, but just commenting that the 2511t with narrow kerf chain on 8 inch quarter sprocket tip bar is a beast. That's what I've been using for about 8 months now. It is amazing for pruning, and particularly for opening up narrow crotches in both emergent and ornamental trees. Since it is rated for a 14 inch bar with standard chain, it ought to be okay with a 16 inch narrow kerf setup...
