without being there hard to be 100% sure..

but brace with rods then go into the canopy with a cable system.

Follow the standards for bracing and cabling for recommended bolt and cable diameters.
that said it is worth the effort I"m sure.

good luck on getting the bid..my experience is to explain to the customer that should you run into unexpected circumstance you may need to add hardware and that cost would be additional.
 
if you don't have the book it is the ANSI A300 standard for tree support systems.

great reference for bracing rod diameters distances etc. also good recs for methods etc.
 
Look at Tom D's post on cabling low as a bracing strategy. imo bracing with threaded rods would remove a lot of heartwood needlessly. BMP too tight on this imo.

throughcabling w 3/8" low and 3/16" high may be an option.
