Camping gas

Been here much more than a while
Location
Detroit, Mi.
Been having bad luck with bad gas lately. Been thinging about the gallon cans if camping gas from walmart. More expensive but its clean! Is this a bad idea?

'White gas' or Coleman fuel is pretty close to unleaded gasoline without 'car' additives.

I have no clue how it would work in chainsaws.

When I went backpacking in Alaska I bought quarts of unleaded for my multi-fuel stove and it worked fine. After a lot, how much is that???, the ports need to be cleaned. That isn't hard on a stove.

In about '70 I was riding up to deer camp with a friend of my Dad's. He misjudged gas stops and had to dump in a gallon of Coleman fuel into his car to get us to the gas station. It pinged but it got us to the station.

A few years ago I started running the highest octane gas in my small engines. The cost is minimal.

Avoid ethanol.
and try to get fuel from newer stations.
Less chance of water and sediment.
Camping gas? If it is clean and the right mix why not.
Looking forward to hear what others have to say since I have a sensitivity to toxic exhaust.

per one of my Sthil dealers:

MotoMix = $7.99/Qt
Cs DsCt = 20% (6 Qts) [$6.39/Qt]
Bottom of ea can is stamped w/ the Fill Date.
Shelf Life (unopened) is = 4 yrs !
After opening = 2 yrs.

I just had the carburetor on my 020T replaced, so I think I'm going to try some.

Yes, I know that is relatively expensive. But if you are trying to work, and you think you have bad gas; maybe a can of good gas from the "kit" would save the day !

Sthil also states that it's use before putting a saw into storage, could be useful.

Ciao ! Greg

Tom, i have an MSR all fuel camping stove that i clogged up with just a couple of uses with gas station gas. Left me out in the woods cleaning the ports with a lityle wire, hungry for some mac and cheese. Gas station gas noticably dirtier. Somebody recomended to me airplane fuel which is good because im not too far from a small airport. Greg i haveused the mixed gas cans and it is noticably better in my saws but its 32$ a gallon. 15 gallons of that stuff is $500 or a new saw.

I like running the tru fuel for now. I have a gas station around with non ethanol fuel which i am going to start running. I have a friend that runs the gas from an airport, it has a pretty high octane, sometimes i think too high but all his stuff runs awesome.
