I wanted to give a shout out to my tree buzz friends!
Tom D it was nice talking with you at sthil booth about srt and how efficient it is over DRT. Wish I could have seen that test you were talking to me about.
Boston bull good to see you on Thursday wish I could have ran that morning with you, but we will have to do that the next time . Awesome job on the Marathon. And let me know how you like that escalator line.
Kevin good to see you and talk with you about the wrench looking forward to the next one!
Treeverda we have to do a rec climb when all this storm stuff slows down, and let me know if you want to borrow my extra rope wrench.
Almark good to see you on the way into the expo at the escalator. I want your K boom crane!
Tree machine nice to meet you.
Reg coats, nice talking with you. I used you rc 1000 on a lot of removals this week defiantly a quality piece of equipment!
Even though I was only at the expo for a couple of hours, I still had a blast.

It was a lot of fun! Seeing a lot of new people. Meeting lurkers and regular TB posters too!

What a surprise to see:

Scott Baker from Tree Solutions in Seattle
Johannes from Freeworker in Germany
Trev Mcrev from Australia
DeGouret Litchfield from Sweden

GK...it sounds like you were busy too~! Good to see you :)

You folks might enjoy this: my "no Expo" expo report. A few weeks before the expo I was working hard to arrange a rec climb site. Both options went down the tubes following the storm. Then a few days before the expo I was in the "screw it" state of mind and started examining Google maps satellite view to find a location. I found something that looked good just north of Hartford right along the river and sent out invites and posted here. Several climbers contacted me and said basically the storm work was too intense and it was unlikely they'd make a rec climb. So I had low expectations for participation.

On Friday I arrived at the location and was psyched to see the tops of many large cottonwoods along the river. Relief! After all it was a total gamble finding a site by satellite. On closer inspection one of my fears for a flood plain site was confirmed: heavy poison ivy growth on the ground and on the trunks of all the big cottonwoods I looked at. So I explored a little further and found a circle of decent sized red oak and a couple of beech on a rise with a stream cutting right through the middle. Perfect. I went back to the meeting spot and waited for a while. No one showed. That was ok, I figured it was a strong possibility.

Plan B went into effect. While I was scanning the satellite images a few days earlier I found what looked like a grove of emergent white pine in Glastonbury east of Hartford. This was a good opportunity to further test the theory that it's possible to identify tall woods trees visually on Google maps. I drove to a trailhead, went in about 1.5 miles and found the pines growing off-trail along a brook winding through the woods. They turned out to be chunky whites with decent height. Woods trees like this are pretty rare, Connecticut has been heavily cut and the woods are dominated by second and third growth "forest" (more like overgrown fields). I think these trees were spared because they were either double or triple leaders or the single trunks had some other flaw that made them less than optimal for the mill. From my point of view a total climber playground, not crazy tall but fat trees in the 110+ range.

There you have it, my no Expo expo report.

Tom every time I went to introduce myself there seemed to be someone talking to you everytime. I was 1 row over from you in the rigging forces class. Oh well next time!
Met quite a few Buzzers there. All seem to be decent dudes!

Missed many but did have a chance to meet a few buzzers.

Markprz, thanks for breakfast! Sorry about having to bolt for the seminar.

Allmark, great to meet you at the Effer booth!

TLHamel, good to finally connect albeit briefly.

Tom, always a pleasure though a short hello!

I'm hoping Baltimore will coincide with better weather!

Ran into so many, missed that many more!!!

Meant to introduce myself to you CrazyJimmy at the DMM booth but you were surrounded by a throng of admirers

Tom D, thanks for taking the time to chat with us opening day. Your SRT thoughts are more than resonating with my old-school buddy. He's even mentioned a road trip to Austin to help you with the Universitie's trees and learn some SRT! Perhaps we'll have to set that up.

Allmark, The ORIGINAL Baby Geezer! Great to see you Bro!

And You too Rich Hattier, the most recent BG! BTW, the Godiva Wig would be Awesome this year!

Guy M, take care of that shoulder brother! Glad it is coming on strong and holding up. Need to catch up with you again and bounce some more ideas off you about me attending the ASCA Academy.

Jeff L, sorry to have missed you due to work and Chris Girard, Lord knows I tried to find you again but we never did cross paths again. Although, Heidi brought me up to speed so it was almost as if we talked!!

Kevin Bingham, thanks for sharing a table with us at lunch.

FamilyTree, As always, your candor and no BS approach to life and this business are warmly recieved. Thanks again for also reminding me why I take lodging a fair distance away from the convention/party. My old body just wouldn't be able to keep up with you hardcore partiers!

Gregg G, you'v sold me brother! That device of yours is now on the Hot 5 for next year

though we didn't catch up with you again I pointed you out to my daughter and explained your contribution to the hardware of the trade...she's somewhat of a physics/biology geek...so when she put two and two together it was too late to introduce you to her.

And Gerry B. God Bless you Brother! It is always awesome to bend your ear for a moment or two. I have to tell you that there are two people in this industry that made it possible for me to get started, Tom D for pointing me in the right direction and You Gerry for publishing the roadmap, nay, the BIBLE of General Tree Work, without which I'd have never made it much less gotten started.

I truly wished I could have introduced my daughter to you but alas, time constraints

There are many more I would have loved to have met, Bostonbull, Ranger Danger, Thumper...far too many to list.

Tom, the TB stickers helped alot, hope to see them used in the future!

Lastly, Mark Chisolm, sorry I didn't swing over to say Hi! I think I first met you in Montreal when you were competing and well, ever since I can't seem to not think of you "On a Pedestal" so I simply have been worshipping you from afar

Hope to connect next time!

This TCI was the first in 15 years that I didn't run a booth. So I was able to see the show and visit with a lot more people better.

Due to the storm the attendance was a bit shy of what it could have been, but for those that did make it, it was good to see you and share time.

Thanks

Rfwoodvt I was hoping to meet you,you have a ggod testimony from what I heard.I guess I missed meeting alot of folks from the buzz.

Met a lot of buzzers old and new in the short time i were there, very cool to catch up with lots of you. Heaps i missed also as my stay turned out very short with 3 delayed flights getting there... Still worth every bit of it though!

Oh and thanks for lunch Tom!

I feel like I should have done a better job representing... I was split between the NEC-ISA booth, the candy store (trade show), and trying to do *some* educational stuff. Glad to meet Goodaking and Reg Coates, and good to see Mr. Girard. Sorry I missed the rest of you. Tom D, I was watching Jamie Goddard's drop test while you were photographing the rope-making loom. Missed you by that much hahaha! Hope everyone had a blast, sorry I missed the Buzzards that I did!

-Tom

Trev...it was my pleasure to treat. Sorry I had to run. It was a $1.50 bus ride vrs. a $50 cab ride I ran for :)

I talked with more than one vendor who said that they witnessed TreeBuzzers making contact. The name tags were like a code or signal!

"Trev...it was my pleasure to treat. Sorry I had to run. It was a $1.50 bus ride vrs. a $50 cab ride I ran for :)"

Lucky you--I paid the cab after spending saturday afternoon doing treeage work in Bushnell Park. Got about 200 pics of trees damaged and trees not. It may have been worth the $50. for that experience; what a resource!

Rfwood yeah ring me up and/or better yet cmon down for some work this winter. ASCAcademy may do you well.

Tom D great to see you in such a mellow and productive space; you continue to inspire. Keep us up on your live oak news, heah?

RopeArmour, great to connect with a brother across the border.

Excellent talks by Mark Stennes, Eric Wiseman, et al.

See the rest of you Buzzards in Portland!
