Bevin,
I agree that multiple business licenses for each municipality is redundant and does discourage a service business from operating in certain areas. I live on the GA AL border. I work for a municiplaity in GA but live in AL. I routinely cite "businesses" for not having a valid business license. These are usually the hacks that pop up all the time. However, in GA, if you hold a business license in any municipality, you can work anywhere in the state. At least that is the way we interpret the law where I work. In AL where I live, each municipality has the B.L. requirement. One other thing about the south, they do enforce these ordinances. I had a case last week where the defendant did not appear in court and the judge issued a bench warrant for his arrest. That said, I have yet to have anyone picked up on the bench warrant and I have one that is 5 years outstanding. Guess the sherrif deputies have too many donuts to capture first.
