I was wondering if any of you guys use the Bouton's clear lens goggles that are similar to the wire mesh ones.

I were contact lenses when I don't have my prescription safety glasses and I'm looking for goggles that won't allow any dust chips to get in my eyes.

I have asked this question on MB'S site as well to get other opinions.

I wear clear safety glasses, (not goggles) under a face screen on a hardhat and never have problems with sawdust in the eyes.
I have a problem with the goggles fitting under the climbers lid suspension liner at the ears.

Kevin, are you saying that you wear contact lenses while doing tree work, and clear safety glasses over them?

Do any of you guys wear contacts while climbing and cutting?

I think I had those same goggles, Chris-----they're junk, with no ventilation to speak of, they fogged like crazy.

Chris,I too use to wear contacts...but I did the lasik thing and love it. I know what you are going through with your contacts. I've tryed about every king of glasses/goggles imaginable, some work some don't. My experiance with goggles was nill, I never found a pair that didnt fog,so they were pretty usless hangin around my neck. I've found that some of the Stihl glasses and some Uvex ones work best for me... but everyone is differant with different shaped faces etc. What Im saying is you'll just have to expiriment to find whats best for you.

Thanks for the info guys.

Poleman, before you had your lasik done, you were able to wear your contacts while doing tree work? That's what I would really like to do.

I think that I can find some protective eyewear that will work for me but I don't know if I should be wearing my contacts out in the woods. I do have an eye appointment coming up so I guess I'll just ask my Dr.

Chris

I have always worn contacts (almost blind without them) with safety glasses over them and never had a problem. If you do get a bit of debris in your eye with contacts in it's really no different than if you didn't have contacts, just be careful if you rub your eye to not pop the lense out.

I also wear contacts with safety glass when working. I find that when trying to use prescribed glasses I can't see out the corners of my eyes. I do always have an extra pair and some contact solution on the ground when working. Just a piece of mind thing.

Chris, believe it or not my first intent for contacts was for sports. I played football and basketball with them in HS and college. Like Joe says you can see out of the corners of your eyes with them unlike glasses. I'm was also blind as a bat without. But I also was like Joe inthat I carried glasses just in case. I wore hard gas-permiabe lenses since my vision with soft was'nt what I liked. Only had one instence where I got into trouble, my saftey-glasses fogged so I pulled them down around my neck( I wear a run a way strap, that way they may move off my face but won't fall to the ground if I'm in a tree) while working that way I was slapped in the face/eye by a pine branch... I thought I had lost my lens but what turned out I shattered the lens in my eye. No harm done just a good lesson. So I know what you are going through, It's tough. Some lens wearers eyes are more sensitive than others...I think I am one of the lucky ones. Just keep lookin for what works for you!!

I had my routine eye exam today and asked my Dr. about wearing my contacts while doing tree work.

He did not recommend it. He said that he's treated woods workers who got chips under their lenses and ended up with some problems to their corneas.

Now he's got me thinking about just wearing my prescription safety glasses with the side shields.

Chris

I use to wear contact but the first time I got something in my eye I realized that the wood might get between the lens and the eye and scratch my actual eye and went back to glass. But they are just as much as a pain. After just a couple months the lens get very scratched. And forget forget if you frop them and they fall to the ground. You wince every step your ground guy gets closer to the drop zone looking for them because you can't see and swear that they are right there and he is gonna step on them. I like you chris, do want lasik being it is the best solution but figured it must be expensive. Where about to it run you poleman? thanks
