Buckingham Butterfly

Re: Buckingham \'GLIDE\'

Tried it and now it is getting sent back. On day #2 of using the Glide one of the quick release clips failed on me while I was decending........talk about scary. If the waist clip would have failed I don't know if I would still be here. Upon inspection it seems the internal spring failed in the buckle. Plus I do not like the way the harness feels on, it always feels like its falling off my hips...........am I the only one?

Re: Buckingham \'GLIDE\'

Craig,

Glad to hear that you caught this flaw before it got ugly. Scary to think about. Have you talked to the MFG Co. about this? I know Buckingham and I'm sure that they would like to talk to you about this. They've always stood behind all of their products as far as I've seen. Plus, if there is a problem with a buckle, it would be good for them to get your feedback and make a change if needed.

Re: Buckingham \'GLIDE\'

Mark,

I am sending a letter explaining what happened. I do not want a replacement saddle either. After using it briefly, I think that the design needs some major improvements also.

Re: Buckingham \'GLIDE\'

Watch out you don't get struck by lightning, talking bad about a sponsor's product like that.

About half of the people at the Expo who tried it did not like it at all. The other half were talking the 'corporate line' and refused to admit anything other than the saddle was the best thing they had ever used. It's about 2X the weight of the Butterfly.

I finally got to try on several different brands of saddles in the same day and I think the most comfortable for me was the Austrian Duo with bosun seat. But it's an expensive setup. Maybe next year, my current B'Ham is only 8 months old.

Re: Buckingham \'GLIDE\'

I've got about 5 or 6 days in my Glide. So far I'm liking it. I spent about 2 hours taking it apart and reconfiguring how it suspends, right now it feels almost identical to my Butterfly which I have been using for 3 years.I'm going to keep my eye on those buckles!

Re: Buckingham \'GLIDE\'

I have the Aus. Duo, the Butterfly and the Glide.
I bought the Butterfly cause it seemed like a great inovative design ( and it is) went to the Duo cause I wanted a stouter saddle and the harness/ suspenders, but did'nt like the way the suspender buckels interfered with wearing the saddle and the equipment hooks/snaps from walmart. Bought the Glide cause something common with all the other saddles is the belt will 'buckle' when you are slinging around a heavier saw attached to it.
the glide IS a stouter saddle. It IS heavier. But it is designed after the butterfly and has many improvements over both the Duo and the butterfly.
The bridge idea sorta works but the hardware from my rope to the saddle kinda grabs the ends of the bridge and does'nt 'glide' so good. The leg straps and heavy but comfortable.
The bottom line IN MY NOT SO HUMBLE OPINION is:
No one saddle is the holy grail. I use different saddles for different applications. My New Tribe is a long time favorite and so is my butterfly but two different saddles, two different applications. Hang a 066 off the side and all saddles will behave differently

Re: Buckingham \'GLIDE\'

The buckle issue has been resolved. The rivets in the original buckles were being pressed too hard and as a result not locking into place. I sent my harness back to Buckingham and they fixed it and sent it back. Too much snow here to try her out in a tree, I am gonna have to wait for a good month to try it.

The customer service from Buckingham was second to none!

My MasterII is going on four years now and I haven't lost a stitch. I keep it clean and have had no problems with it, but the time is nearing for replacement just because of age. I am not familiar with butterfly saddles and need some pros and cons. The MasterII has served me well. Am I a lesser arborist because I don't use a butterfly saddle?

It's not the equipment used, but the climber in it.
I believe opinions about the butterfly saddle can be found by doing a site search using, "butterfly".

Re: Buckingham \'GLIDE\'

Unfortunately I had the privelage or trying out this saddle at the arizona tree climbing championship. After my komet b'fly was d/q i was able to borrow what turned out to be a the worst rendition of a saddle ever. It worked fine for speed climb, footlock and for Aerial rescue, but when it came to the work climb, when i actually had to put this thing to the test, it was horrible. On the limb walk, the saddle's front buckle got spun around onto my right side, and it dug into my pelvic bone area pretty bad, it left quite a bruise and scrape. The two pointy release buttons used to release the buckles are like little daggers once you put some weight into this saddle. Not a good attempt at a remake of the True Butterfly..

Re: Buckingham \'GLIDE\'

HI Brandon,'

Are you talking about the Glide or the Austria
Can't say I have ever experienced this problem with the Austria......

Re: Buckingham \'GLIDE\'

Talking about the Glide, I haven't had the privelage of trying out the Austria. I've heard good things about the Austria, but nothing but bad about the Glide, and now i know why i'd heard those things.
