I recieved my Bashlins Tuesday and paired them with big buck velcro pads. I climbed a large honey locust yesterday and a half dead box eldar of moderate size today. The Bashlins performed excellently. I've never had a spike go into the tree more easily or hold better. Its been a long time since I wore steel bucks, but there is a pair hanging on the wall in my shop. The first major difference I noticed is the thickness and angle of the stirrups. The bashlins are much thicked and have an angle which points the spur towards the toes slightly while keeping the shaft back from the shin bone. The gaff itself doesn't stick out to the side as far, keeping the foot closer to the tree and putting less side load on the knee joint. Also the gaff has a finer profile to the point which sinks into the wood much easier, however I am comparing brand new bashlins to old bucks that may have changed shape from wear and sharpening, so newer bucks could be different. I'll try to remember to snap a side by side picture tomorrow and post it. I was also pleasantly surprised to learn the Bashlins are made about an hour north of me in Grove city PA. Its nice to help out local manufacturing.
