I mean no dis-respect. Last I checked, this forum is based not in China, where dissent is not allowed, but in the U.S., where, like it or not, the public has a voice. And actually, I am not dissenting, just asking for information, and seeking knowledge is hardly ever disrespectful.

Banning someone is akin to Capital Punishment. That is the harshest punishment known to man (other than familicide, genocide, etc).

Because this is the harshest punishment, it surely must reflect a crime of horrendous magnitude. Something so bad, that it transcends personal feelings. Personal feelings of the moderators, as well as the group as a whole. ???

The nature or details of the event I have no wish to know.

However, I would like to know how the members vote, because a forum is built on the individual members, and the group as a whole defines the site.

Bring him back?
Or not?

Just a simple question/poll

Last I checked, there were some nasty things said about TreeBuzz and it's principles...on TreeHouse. From not just a few Butch supporters.

Should I post them?

Therein lies your answer.

Live and let Live!

i just don't understand the problem. And i don't think i've seen MB ever start anything negative. He might rolled back on his hind 2 and stood up, and felt justified after awhile... Folks, generally called it out of him; sum allowed it to happen. More of a responsive/ reactive than aggressive energy. He freely advertises more other places than most too.

A snake in the garden not plucked by it's head, can still bight ya.

But, i generally enough understand where he is coming from; and the things he's tried to do; even lend in his own way. A lot of positive things by the weigh.

Re: Bring Back Butch Thread

Funny thing this banning stuff.

I seem to recall another "Tree Site" a while back that let its mods get out of hand and things went down hill very fast.

Posts got deleated & worse, altered. Thats when the site lost its credibility.

Others were left guessing as to what is going on! It was an insult to the members, it weakened the integrity & its then good reputation.

It made the controlers of the site look like a bunch of foolish idiots. Remember Tom, you were there!

They thought banning was the way to go also. Ya know what, that site has never been the same since.

After all the bannings, increased rules, members asked to leave or left on their own, etc etc, the site lost its personality and its identity, its draw and most of all many members!!!

Frankly, most tree guys don't give a chit about "non-tree-related-issues", they just want to learn, teach, share, and enjoy a good post from time to time and maybe have a laught or two.

Butch (MasterBlaster) is Butch and thats just the way things are and you CAN'T change him no more than he can change you!!!

He's been doing treework longer that many of us have and can still teach us a thing or two. And so can many other members here including yourself!

Banning is a form of censorship and I for one prefer to choose for myself what I read and and don't need anyone making the decision for me!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure I'm not alone on this point either!!!

I think the proper action, for you, as a site mod could have done would have been to move the thread to the "Rant & Rave" forum and let it run its course there.

This way those that don't give a crap about individuals bickering can simply CHOOSE view the other forums! A SIMPLE SOLUTION if you ask me!

The Tree Buzz is a good site to visit, a bit slow at times but a good site just the same.

Please don't let your personal issues with MB take you and the Buzz down the same pathe at that other "Tree Site". Its not to lat to change things ya know.

It takes two to argue Tom so maybe you could be the "Bigger Man" this time and not "The Big Man"!!!

Balls in your court and members are watching to see what kind of site your running by what you do next.

Balls in your court!

Hint, think of the bigger picture!!!

With respect,

Re: Bring Back Butch Thread

I agree HobbyClimber. I have seen a few threads involving MB that were a little goofy, I laughed or thought this is petty and looked at another topic. I love waterfowl hunting, it is my passion. There is a certain forum where the owner doesnt allow bashing or spamming or anything like that, unless it is him doing it. He is always throwing people off of it. He sucks and it sucks and i never go to that website anymore, as well as many other people. I KNOW THAT TOM AND THE GUYS ARE COOL AND THEY ARE NOT LIKE THE MAN I MENTIONED ABOVE, but I said all that to say that I like a little freedom to say what you want and possibly have AN ARGUMENTATIVE DISCUSSION. And mayb a few insults in fun or mayb not and not be afraid to be thrown off. Its all good and fun.

Capital punishment? Not even close.

Heck, I got banned from Hannity.com forums, for unknowingly breaking a rule about wording a title. No sweat of my behind.

Your comparison does not work, because Masterblaster has a forum to go to. It's not like being locked up in Pelican Bay Prison in north California where there is nowhere to go.

In his case, being banned is more like not being allowed in the city of Seattle, but still being able to visit and live-it-up in several other cities.

I'm guessing there is more than meets our eyes.

Are there rules that we all agreed to follow when we registered here?

What was the "punishment" for not following the rules?

Were these rules broken?

But check his posts and see if there is anything worth while in there. For as many posts he had here on the buzz, take away all of those that were slander towards others, take away the couple hundred that were aimed at grover and take away the 4 word responses and what do you have?

[/ QUOTE ]

That pretty much sums up my feelings. No loss.

I agree with EZ that he should put on double secret probation however, I disagree that DSP is from Revenge of the Nerds and more likely to be from the movie Animal House

You got me friend.

I just voted on the poll and it said that 76% of voters would like to see the ban lifted.

Is that a Boo-Ya?

Re: Bring Back Butch Thread

Like I keep telling you folks...Mark and I have never done our laundry in public. Since January '01 we've had common ideas of how TB should function. That still continues.

As hard as some folks may find this to believe, there is nothing personal that caused the blocking. My skin is thicker than that.

If anyone wants to know why B was blocked, call me, my phone number is readily available.

If popularity ran things the block list would have dozens of people on it.

Re: Bring Back Butch Thread

So is that a Yes or No vote for you Tom???

Maybe you could explain your reasoning with some detail in the "Rant & Rave" forum here at the Buzz. It would save some members the cost of long distant phone calls!!!

This way those who care will have your reply and those who don't will CHOOSE not to bother reading! All above board without people wondering if there is something hidden from them.

Besides, you made it so MB isn't allowed to respond here so what do you have to loose...credibility???

Sorry TD, that was a cheap shot but I'm trying to get you to see that because of your personal issues with MB, your hurting your Site to some degree. Can you see that or no?

The Buzz is your site Tom so you do what you think is best. If Banning someone (anyone) will make it better, well thats your call and yours alone.

Heres something else to think about, MB does bring alot of traffic into the Buzz and isn't that good for the Buzz & its sponsors???

Bigger Picture eh!

Another analogy & I'll stop. When reading the news paper in the morning, some read the paper front to back. Other just reaed the buisness section that interest them. But some just read the funnies.

But everyone still buys the paper for their own reason and that makes the sponsors very happy!!! See the Bigger Picture now?

OK, yes, I like the funnies but while paper in my hand, I'll end up reading all of it, including the adds on the right hand side.

So is banning someone your best option here or is this personel?

You have a lot of new people now at the Buzz watching to see what happens to MB. May be there is something you could do to try & keep the new members comming back.

Word of mouth is important in any business and lets face it MB is not afraid of using his! Good, bad or ugly!

Your thoughts please.

This site is remarkably free of bickering, backbiting, and dick comparisons. That is a testament to its members, but also to its moderators, who have gone to some effort to keep it that way. MB was warned repeatedly in various threads to obey the site rules and chose to poke the bear instead. I suspect he was also warned offsite. If he was banned, I trust Tom and Mark to have a good reason.

Compare that to Butch's site and some of the others out there, where you could read for hours before finding any substantial info about anything. This place is a welcome relief from the static and noise.

Despite some statements to the contrary, I would not say MB's contributions were all that useful in most cases. Either they were "You go, Girl" type non-statements or they were inflammatory, more often than not. I agree he had some useful info now and then, and I respect MB's experience in the field, but those who miss it should know where to find it, since he repeatedly promoted his own site here even though he knew he wasn't supposed to.

If you take a poll on how many people you know who have been banned here, and how many have been banned there, I think you will find a marked difference. I believe Butch is the first here; I wouldn't even try to guess how many were banned there.

I wouldn't care much if MB was reinstated, but I support Tom and Mark in their decision.
