Booty haul from Long Beach

Frans,

I don't understand what you're asking?

The Uni can be pushed up so that the rope is tight to the TIP but it's asy to release. I can see that the LJ might get tight because of the camming action. That would make it hard to release.

Why are you putting yourself so close to your TIP?

I think Frans means when your close to your tie point, laterally or slightly above perhaps, the rope weight tends to be too much and your always adjusting and dressing the lock jack to keep things lined up? Thats a drawback to the LJ that I too dont like, the closer you get to the tie in, it seems the more it happens due to most of the rope weight being under the LJ.

Tom do you have apic of it in use as Ddrt?

The lockjack will feed the rope through itself almost automaticly. As you climb higher and higher the weight of the rope will cause the rope to feed easier and easier through the lockjack. When climbing above the tie in point you have to pull the entire weight of the rope up to get slack.
so when climbing up and over a limb it is very difficult to then stand up on the limb with the lockjack holding tight to the limb (tie in point). You have to pull out slack to stand up.
With the entire weight of the rope hanging free below you this is a hassle with the lockjack due to it's free flowing feeding action
Does'nt happen so easily with a french prussik.

Frans,

The plate that the yellow arros points to is spring loaded so the Uni doesn't slide like the LJ. Next time I climb I'll pay closer attention to this feature.

John,

To descend, the plates that the red arrows point to are pulled together. The action is very similar to the LJ. With a little practice I've gotten the feel for easing into a descent.

Whats the point? I mean it's nifty, by all means, build a better mousetrap...
But for the average worker, what's the benefit?
