Books: Arboriculture or Tree Maintenance?

[ QUOTE ]
Harris...but only after you have Shigo's books.

If I'm not mistaken, you can get all of Alex Shigo's books and materials considerably cheaper at http://www.shigoandtrees.com/ . I think it's a very reasonable way to recognize his contributions and support the focus on his works.

Pirone's book has a whole section devoted to abnormalities of specific trees which is a good quick reference. I agree that if you can have one get Harris' book. I also recommend Whitcomb's Establishment and Maintenance of Landscape Plants. Another suggestion is to get them used from amazon or barns and noble. You can get nice hardcover older editions for a fraction of the price new.

Thanks folks...already have Gilman, ANTB, and Modern Arboriculture...hungry for more!

Just found out I could get Arboriculture by Harris for FREE from my campus' library through Interlibrary Loan...a hidden perk of my job. I'm going to borrow it for the time being and purchase it at a later date.

Thanks again!

I got my college's library to buy Up By the Roots by James Urban, and am very very impressed with it. I'm considering using it as a text book for my urban forestry class over the Harris book, actually.
