BOLA

I now make the BOLA (which I call the SS BOLA) with a stainless steel spine and pin on the teardrop (or optional nano swivel).
The arms are also SS and the friction links are nickel plated. The teardrops are 7075 aluminum, with nickel plated brass bearings. The rubber nubs have a SS stud, affixed with a SS jamb nut.

What is the sideways swivel on your bridge used for?

@surveyor; Now that is a work of art.

Is there any chance that this might mean a stainless steel Compact Adjustable Bulldog Bone is not too far behind? Thanks for your time, and apologies if this puts more unneeded pressure on you. I'm just Mr. Everyman, asking my Mr. Everyman questions.

Thanks Tim.
The Bone is already somewhat stainless, in that the bottom pin and the top joint (and cotters, and rubber nub studs) are made of stainless. : )

Thought I would post a picture of the BOLA with the swivel. This model would not accept the swivel before, but by changing the profile of the lower swing arm, it now does. It is 2" x 3-3/4" overall in size.

Gotta get my 11 k max so I can retire my prussic climbing ways

Both style BOLA's will accept the swivel (as pictured), but the early style does not develop as much grip.
The SS BOLA does not have to have the teardrop on top (as pictured), however with the teardrop at the top it is very easily made to self advance by terminating the standing side of the rope there, plus the climber can isolated himself from the circle of the lanyard in case of a split in the stem. The teardrop is made of 7075 alloy aluminum, and on the BOLA has a nickle plated brass bearing, so the teardrop only weighs 1 oz.

I just ordered mine. Tell me what works aside from KM3 Max and also KM3 can't be stitched or spliced according to WesSpur. How did you make the lanyard? I have tritech, blaze, and imori as lanyards. I guess I need to get something else? I do want an eye on the end. I hate a stopper knot.

Here is a Japanese climber with 2 Bones and a BOLA on his lanyard. It looks like 1 Bone is on his throw hook line.

Interesting how he has a quick link in there. I haven’t seen one rigged like that.

I ran tritech in mine for quite a while and it was great. It's probably a bit fatter and stiffer (insert joke here) than what the bola was designed for. I'm now on Yale r.i.n.g. in 10.5 mm and it runs a little smoother but self tends a little too well sometimes. The tritech had a little resistance like a hitch, and that can be welcome at times to not eat up your slack when you lean in on small diameter stuff.
Wesspur wouldn't sew my km Max either, and other manufacturers do but I respect that they do their own testing and didn't feel comfortable with the sewn eye.

So I guess i'm just wondering what works. If tritech 10.5 is too big, KMIII Max is 11mm. Doesn't compute to me. So Oceans is using Platinum. Thats bigger than 10.5 is it not?
