Bluemoon? What the word on the street?

I'm in the research phase for a new climbing line. I have been climbing on Safty blue high vee. I like a thicker line, but looking to lose a little weight and minimize elongation. I'm thinking bluemoon(poison ivy) or tachyon. What are the thoughts? I read on other post people staying faithful to velocity. I know it comes down to personal feel. I just haven't heard a lot about bluemoon, good, bad, or indifferent?

I'm partial to the Velocity, but if you want a thicker line It's great. My friend switched from 16 to db and that is what he chose. He really likes it. I have handled it and it feels great. I've climbed on the Tachyon and and it was great but maybe not worth the dough. You would probably be happy with the moon or ivy.

blue moon is great man. I have pi and it has lasted me forever. I still use it after a year and a half and it's still in pretty good shape. I also have tachyon. It is a great line. I love it but it just didn't last long enough for my liking. It's ready for retirement and it isn't nearly as old as my pi line

I also have velocity line. I love it but it is a bit stretchy. I use it primarily for prunning and dead wooding.

If I had to choose and didn't have to worry about cost of replacing the line I'd go with tachyon

I like tachyon better than PI hands down. Climbed on both now for enough to give an opinion. Tachyon feels thicker in my opinion and stays round better.

Tachyon is a sweet rope! Dad has a hank of PI and thats what I used before I got some Tachyon and both are great ropes. But like Derrick said, Tachyon stays a bit rounder under load.

But also like FT said though, Tachyon isn't the best in the wear department. I'm not a full time climber, so my line isn't climbed on everyday. But I've climbed on it enough where the first 50' or so is showing some wear. And I try to use an FS 80% of the time. Compared to our PI, which is going on 2 years, it shows little wear. And again, PI is not used full time and when I used it, I used an FS 80% or so of the time.

In the end though I guess it comes down to personal preference, like in just about everything else in tree climbing.

I just switched from 16 strand Hi-vee myself to PI, and you wont see me looking back from that swap. Very happy with it personally!

Only problem is, I've ditched rope snaps as attachment points (eye spliced rope), so tying the rope into a throwing ball is a little tougher, due to the decreased weight, having a hard time getting the knot to come down under its own power. Oh well, thats what they put the hook on the back of the polesaws for! (At least thats how it works for me anyways. ;))

So has anyone used bluemoon with a tautline hitch? If so how well does it perform without a friction saver?i currently climb on saftey blue from new england but i'd like to get another line.

I really like the low stretch, it is great for footlocking and then tying in and climbing on also. Probably my all around favorite line. Most of the guys who work for me use BM or velocity, so maybe that should say something???? I dont know.

I think if would give an eye and eye split tale a go, you would be pleased. I think the Distel is a great hitch to begin with very easy to tie. imo acts similar to a tautline.

here is a link to An Overview of Climbing Hitches By Mark Adams great read very informative

I dont seem to have the longevity issues with Tachyon as everyone else does. I climb daily on mine and its nearing 9 months old and still in great shape.

I use a friction saver 90% of the time. I used a pulley a lot with the tach. It's incredibly responsive, I do love the line, it just didn't last as long as pi

If it helps, I plan on replacing my tach line with another tach line. It really is a nice rope

I am genuinely curious as to what shape you would say the PI takes on under load. I know 12 strands will square off under load but in my 2 years using PI, i have never had it be anything but round both under load and relaxed. By the by, i recommend PI to anyone who asks about a climbing line...but to each their own so long as its rated.
