Blaze Rope

For the hitch to grab you'd have to be footlocking some really thick rope. I think there are lots of better prussik chords available specifically for that job.

Try moving in the range of some smaller size prusik cord. Give Samson prusik cord a shot. It is pretty affordable and works great for this application. It is a blue/white rope, that is how you can recognize it. Samson Ultra Tech is also a good choice comes in different colors.

I use a end to end spliced Ultra Tech cord and it works quite well.

I'm thinking that if you were using it to bite down on a doubled half-inch climbing line, that it would work fine.

Though it CAN be used, I wouldn't. As arborer and John have shared, you probably will be happier with the smaller cords.

Is there a particular reason you want to use Blaze?

I have a friend that uses velocity for a FL prussik. He thinks the additional surface area of the larger diameter helps to push the knot up when ascending, and let's just say....he's fast! Also, it seemed to "lock-up" just fine when he needed it to....I mean, doubled 1/2 inch lines equals 1 inch of rope diameter, right?

well my dad bought me the grizzly spliced lanyard years ago when i first started and I hardly used it because soon after i got into one hand slack tending...so the other day i took apart the lanyard because I wanted to use the rope snap on it to put together another lanyard...so i loosened the hitch and slipped it apart...lol and its a pain to put back together...although i haven't really tried to.

The hitch part makes a larger loop or splice that seems to be the same size as a footlock prusik cord....also currently I climb off a half inch line....so I understand that there are better ones out there....I was just wondering if it can work...like if there are any major problems that would/could fail by using this rope for a footlocking purpose

I think I know who you are talking about, we just spliced a footlock prusik cord for him last week for the March TCC in his area. He wanted it made out of Velocity Hot, tight eye on one end, and huge eye on the other for attachment to the climbing line. He told me he does a 15 sec. footlock....not bad........maybe I should try one of these.........
