BIG SHOT® Line Reel & Mount by SherrillTree Read

It will definately get you higher..but the line is really not very strong and tangles on everything. Didnt fly for us...been in the case for over 10 years. With the newer lines that are out; you might be better to load up on them.

I’ve used it a little. Better but not huge gains over shooting off a shot line winder from TreeStuff for me. (Think I measured some 110 and 120.) I bought a open face ocean reel to get shots with less drag and to shoot Dyneema straight off the reel, avoiding a middle step of pulling up a throw line so I can then pull up the heavier rope without wearing through mono filament. I haven’t practiced with the open face reel yet though. If you weren’t in a hurry, I could shoot it in the next couple of weeks and let you know. New the reel was $165 or so.

You can easily hit those heights with a home made APTA launcher. PM me if you want the details on making one.

Thanks but I'll pass, I have long history with air powered launchers, both compressed air and combustible gas. Raising 3 boys we had some fun :) We were doing compressed gas one year a couple miles from the nearest homes, next thing we know, 8 squad cars come screaming up the dirt road....pretty sure they figured it was some kind of terrorist boot camp. You would think the air powered would not make as much noise as the explosive gas, not so.
So, here I am trying to be real stealthy and climb some giant firs with a cannon launcher. Don't think so.
But you are right, you do get the distance!!! I've seen a potato come out the other side of 1/2 plywood.

But really, thanks again for the tip.

I did the research. Compressed air line setting devices are clearly defined as legal by US title5 and US B-ATF regs. Its not loud either.

The big shot, is however not covered under those provisions and is easily defined as a 'destructive device'. A DD is the same as a firearm.

Compressed gas is way diff than compressed air too.

APTA is even California legal.

Officer it's legal, I swear!

I like an open faced spinning reel over a closed face (in the Sherrill package), line pays out with much less resistance.

Note that the bowhunting reel in the package maxes at 300' of line, you can get more on the right open faced reel. You'll need it for a plus 150' shot which you'll get easily enough. Look at the Fireline (fishing line) to find the right pound test to match to a fishing reel with enough capacity. Get the brightest color available.
