Bicep rupture

[ QUOTE ]
I had a bicep tear a about 3 years ago.
The muscle let go at the elbow. I got advice from a friend that's a UFC coach, he said avoid surgery if you can. Other muscles help out the injured one and make up the difference. He must have been right because I don't feel like I've lost any strength. Only thing I do notice is that my forearm sometimes gets a little fatigued when I'm working hard.

It was a freaky deal, the whole bicep let go and slid up to my shoulder.

I remember that, Jim. Your arm looked funky! Glad to hear you've healed up well.

Id likely not be taking medical advice from a UFC coach, but hey that's just me.

Thank you for sharing.

Jim- did the "knotted up" appearance of the bicep go away after a while, or do you still have a noticeable lump?

My arm is feeling pretty good- I think I am going to wait until next week before persuing a doctors advice.

Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences.

It did.

I talked to a guy that had the same injury but his looked much worse than mine. I may have done a partial tear if that's possible

Yeah- In my professional opinion (based on a few days of online google searches) I had read that a partial tear is a possibility, and I am wondering if that might be what I experienced as well. My bicep is a little deformed (Popeye arm) but its not as bad as most of the pictures I have found showing examples of what it looks like.

Funny, I sort of forgot about the injury until you started this thread. At first, the bicep flopped around like jello, today (roughly 3 years later) it has tightened up significantly. The only time I exercised the arm was when I was working. When it got fatigued, I backed off. It was possible to adapt my climbing technique and continue. I was patient with healing and cautious of doing further damage.

I had a full bicep rupture on my left arm 13 months ago, mine also let go at the elbow and basically rolled up to my shoulder. I was taking a limb back over a house and throwing the chunks out into the yard, I threw a 3 inch or so branch out into the yard and felt a pop, then real sharp pain in my arm, I actually thought I broke it at first. Went to the hospital shortly thereafter, they recommended surgery so I didnt think much of it and had the surgery about a week later. Im pretty happy with the results, my range of motion is great, and the strength is almost back to normal. It does get sore if I work it too hard, but nothing really bad. I think my biggest problem has been being able trust it again, I find myself taking a lot smaller pieces if im catching and throwing stuff.
