Best type/controls for a crane!

Well, to follow up my other post on who makes the best I figured I'd do something on cranes.

First, which do you think is better, a straight boom or knuckle boom and in what capicity for each.

Next, for controls, what is the best: remote(mostly knuckleboom), behind the cab stand up controls, or the ride on ones(the ones with a seat, joysticks, etc.

Third, price: Which is better in the long run, or for someone on a tight budget.

Fourth: The type of outriggers. The new X-Style, the standard slide outs, or the sloped slide outs (like on a bucket truck).

Well, there you go. If anyone wants to throw in a few makes, be my guest, but I figured I'd keep this one simple after the responses from my last post. Thanks

BTW knucklebooms, and ALL stand up contrrolled units are NOT cranes. Cranes are classified as being able to PICK UP their OWN counterweights. The rest are just boom trucks!

Do you have a source for that classification?

Thanks.

Yes, we own 2 of them. one is a 2004, and one is a 2006. We have a few extras that are nice. larger tires, HID lights on the main boom, Rear camera, and Camera mounted on the end of the main boom for looking over the house, with an LCD screen in the drive and operators cab.

Couldnt imagine doing any other way.

Mahk
I do not have a readily available classification. It is what I have been told by operators, salesmen, and crane mechanics for years............Just always took it for gold. Could be wrong though...?

About 30-40 removals a $week$

Over $600K each, plus the add ons. But well worth every penny.

Mark you'll see them some day, we'll try to get you up here.

Tod k Yes a 60 ton truck mounted crane would probably have been in the $350-400 range, but these are all terrain on fully adjustable chassis, etc etc etc, so that drives the price way up.

You can pick up a used good condition Terex 4792, 23.5 ton/92 foot of power boom, for 1/10th the cost of that Grove crane. The 4792 will serve any tree co. very well in 95% of your tree removals, for the other 5% hire a crane. And the Terex will even haul wood. The Grove is nice though, especially if you've got $6 large sitting around idle.
