Benefits of being a tree climber...

Me:" When I grow up I am going to climb trees for a living"
My older Brother: " Ya Right"
Me: " Told you so"
I love being right!!!

looking at the macro / and the micro and how it is all interwoven (web of life kinda stuff), then saying to myself, "evolution?! Really?, Now THAT is funny!! Thank you God for allowing me the Privledge of not only seeing your work.....but helping to care for it!!"

Having my kid's friends think I'm cool because instead of going to an office everyday, I climb big trees.

Having my daughter's boyfriends fear me because I work with chainsaws and wood chippers.

ID'ing most trees at a glance.

Picking my girl up from school in a dumptruck.

Having sawdust in my belly button... and ears and shoes and various and sundry other places.

Smelling like pine.

Having people say I'm lying when I tell them I'm 51.

Making a perfect face cut.

Giving away firewood and chips.

Getting cats out of trees and having kids cheer.

Knowing about botany.

Being known as 'The Hillsborough Tree Guy'.

Working in new places every week.

Using ropes and carabiners every day.

Learning something new and useful every day.

Being kinda scared sometimes.

Not being scared at all sometimes... when I should be terrified.

Lying in bed and still feeling like I'm in a top swaying with the wind.

Working with skilled groundies and not worrying when I watch big wood fall harmlessly away from me.

Swinging.

Hanging lights in the old post oak in front of Carr Mill.

Being hot and sweating when it's 30 degrees.

Making and patching up gear.

Getting paid to do something totally fun and exciting.

I've got a good 12-15 years before I'm in that situation with my 2 girls, but oh man, I'm looking forward to it.

Sounds almost as much fun as sawdust in the belly button.
