BC must die

Johnny Hart, creator of "BC" and co-creator of "Wizard of ID", died at his story board Saturday. His syndicate has announced that the strip will live on. Please join me in writing to info@creators.com and requesting that the strip be allowed a dignified death like its creator.

I used to enjoy "BC" now and then. I complained about it bitterly in recent years, as Hart spent more and more time moralizing and less time being funny. Still, I never called for its demise (I did write a letter or two to newspapers asking them to drop it, but that's another story). But, as a comics page fan, I hate to see these things passed off to a committee, bereft of all creativity or spark (e.g., "Hagar the Horrible," "Shoe," "Beetle Bailey," "Family Circus," etc.), while the next generation of artists scrapes by on donations to their web sites without ever getting published in a newspaper.

This site makes the case better than I do.

"BC" must die! Long live the funny papers!

RIP, Johnny.
