Bashlin-XS saddle review!

Any of you have problems with the back pad being TOO big? I had it get caught on branches as I was moving throughout the tree...i didn't like that very much.

UPDATE!!!!

never had a problem with the backpad snagging on branches, pretty much ANY saddle will snag in the trees....this one is no different.

I wish BASHLIN would take the tie in point aluminum plate, and machine it like a rigging plate, with 3 SEPERATE holes for clipping 'biners into. Perhaps adding a roller (think roller bearing) in each webbing slot, would make rotating in the saddle WAY easier (webbing rolls on rotating axle instead of sliding (friction) . Currently you can only fit one biner in, otherwise you run the risk of sideloading the tie in plate, because all the biners get jammed up at the top. MAKE ONE WITH THREE SEPERATE HOLES PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!! :)

HATE HATE HATE that goddamn red webbing on the front of the harness (tie in point waist/leg connector webbing). every goddamn day i have to remelt the ends, becasue they split and fray EVERYTIME you go to adjust them.

This saddle would be incredible with a buttstrap option. I find the leg straps rotate around and the thin webbing cuts off my circulation, while the nice comfy padding rotates around to the sides of the leg, instead of under.

UPDATE:

I like the stock tie in point, for trad tail tied climbing. But when you add several carabiners into the saddle tie in point (ie for split tail or SRT), they jam up and bind in the slot. So i'm swapping out the stock plate for a rigging plate with 4 oblong holes , 2 of wich will be occupied by the leg webbing and the waist webbing (red webbing). The other two holes will be for a carabiner each. Should clean up and organize the saddle tie in point.

Anyhow anyone else care to weigh in on the Bashlin XS?

(BTW anyone know why this saddle does not appear on the Bashlin Web site?)

Ok I was looking at this saddle on Blue ridge arborist supplies website and looked here for further info....one thing i dont understand is how the tie in point can slide/float side to side...especially with those adjustment buckles in the way...overall anymore comments on this saddle?

does this saddle last?
Is there no other option than the sit back style or is that all in adjustments?

Thanks for all the help

Casey

I've looked at this saddle on several occations. I didn't like that fact that if you roll to one side or the other it looks like the Attachment plate would hit the red webbing adjuster. Which would make me nervous. I like the concept behind the saddle minus the back pad.

What i keep thinking is the cut the red straps and use two appropriate ropes for a bridge and just use a large Ring for the new attachment point.

Couple of things this would do, it would eliminate the Attachment plate hitting the webbing adjuster. Also it would allow you to adjust the balance of the saddle so that when tied in it would hold you more upright.

I don't have this saddle but have looked at it often. If i was to get it, those adjustments would be one of the first things i would do. Just some thoughts

I could be totally wrong, but does anyone even make this saddle any more? That might tell you how it did on the market.

I tried it, and just a few second in that HUGE back pad and I knew that me and that harness were never gonna work out.
