Bashlin 145 climber pads

I just found out the Bashlin company is 2 towns over from me. I would love to support local business and need to upgrade from my old L pads. I was considering the Bashlin 145s as they appear to offer a great deal of support both for the shin itself as well as the steal shank support. They seem similar to the Big Buck pads. Has anyone had any experience with these?

If they are that local, perhaps you could ask if they will loan you a set to see how youlike them. The worst they can do is say no.

I did contact them recently as it doesn't appear they have a showroom and I would at least like to try them on. It looks like it is just the factory though.

I haven't used those but have run other nice Bashlin pads with steel inserts. What had me opt away from them was coming back to my gear bag and finding green growing on them after not using them a for a little too long.

I notice you're from Greenville.....sounds like very conducive conditions :). Look at Caddy pads, also called Alco I believe.

Caddy pads would be about half the cost, but not local - although nothing but my saw was purchased locally. Caddy pads appear to have a straight shank support instead of angled like the Bashlins. I'm not sure how much of a difference that makes if any. The other factor is that I am a novice and not in them frequently, which may be part of the issue. I don't spend a great deal of time on spurs but would like them to be comfortable enough that I can work and not be distracted by the shank digging in my leg.

Bashlin aluminum climbers were the second climber I tried and the first to not rub my ankle bone.

I tried Bashlin pads with a steel insert (more narrow than set you pictured) and noticed no improvement over their straight set with steel insert.

Caddy pads are bragged up for a reason. They are comfortable. Worst I have heard about them is some people think they are bulky.

Just as a note, I always advocate for trying someones that has a set.

Thanks. I would love to try some out first, so I may reach out to Bashlin again, but not sure about the caddy pads. This is not my full-time gig so currently I only know 1 guy in the industry and it seems to be all bucket truck work for him. I will be in Cincinnati in July and see that they have a store with some equipment, so maybe they have some options.

I have Weaver velcro wrap pads on my Bashlins. These are my back up climbers. Comfortable pads for the coin. I have Buckingham's velcros on my buc alloys. They seem to be made a little better. Heard the Weavers wear a little quicker in the stitched areas.

I dig the velcro concept and I'm sure they are just as safe but I prefer the traditional buckle style strap. There's more peace of mind for me with the old school strap.

I used to feel the same way till I got 'em. My bucs even have the velcro lowers.
I'M NEVER GOING BACK!
