I didn't see an example there. Just an accusation. That's forgivable. I know the area around you is rather radical, and so that influence is inevitable.

Let me show you something that you may not be aware of.
If there is nothing that he could possibly do that you would approve of, then your game is rigged and you can't tell how well he is doing.
So, is there any way that he could surprise and impress you? How? How would others around you react? Is that indicative of the majority of the country?

Just so you understand most folks in California are not radical... Nope. Just normal folks muddling through life, but we do tend to be a little more open minded simply because we are generally exposed to more and through this exposure we realized that different DOES NOT equal bad.. It also doesn't take some far left wingnut to realize that there isn't a whole lot of wiggle room when the future President of the United States of America walks down the stairs to announce his candidacy and proceeds to vomit up this kind of ignorance..He has laid down the gauntlet and announce to the world that he harbors bias toward others based on the color of their skin, their nationality, and their religion....What are we to do but take his word for it?

"When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.

But I speak to border guards and they tell us what we’re getting. And it only makes common sense. It only makes common sense. They’re sending us not the right people.

It’s coming from more than Mexico. It’s coming from all over South and Latin America, and it’s coming probably— probably— from the Middle East. But we don’t know. Because we have no protection and we have no competence, we don’t know what’s happening. And it’s got to stop and it’s got to stop fast."

Not sure why the Mods here allow jackasses to derail threads with political BS.
It certainly diminishes my respect for this forum.

Derail?

Open discussion isn’t linear. It hurts sometimes. Every once in a while even I have to take a shower after reading some threads

Stop and think about this particular thread when you look so critically at moderation. Do you allow your employees wear company shirts for the company they used to work for? Your ‘competition’ so to speak. It seems like this thread has become a sort of neutral ground to air differences. Not that TH is competition. Just another forum with a different audience. Not unlike the innumerable Facebook pages. Each has a different tone. Some have narrow posting rules which are enforced with an iron fist. Not the way Treebuzz has developed over twenty years.

"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."
A paraphrase of John Stuart Mill. A person must pick their battles and this is where the real discussion here lies, but in this day and age sitting by quietly is akin to neutering yourself. Better to be too far on the side of justice than not far enough.

I thought it was fair game once the grievances were aired. Maybe it could be moved to a less tree-focused section?

@Tom Dunlap that was a wonderful post.

@rico
That sounds about right.

Tyranny is the only thing you'll find on either end of the spectrum.
I noticed your paraphrase refers to evil, but not evil men. That strikes me as important. We should all be focusing on individual actions, personal responsibility, and quit hating if we want anything to get any better, not arguing about teams like idiots on the couch watching sportsball.

I really appreciate your input, Daniel.
There's a philosophical segue there. Any of us could have succumb to any negative influence in the proper circumstance. The ingredients are there just by virtue of being human. The trap of right or wrong is one of those scary, selfish, hateful influences. By putting the option out there to label someone as "wrong" you make it possible to rationalize causing them harm for it's own sake (even if it is not physical harm, accusing someone of being a piece of shit is definitely not about helping them not to be). Surely it can't be right to hurt someone for being wrong, and it must be wrong to not admit that there isn't a person alive who is only right.
Starting at something so black and white is a terrible idea. Even if it seems clear. "Nazis are bad" comes to mind. Those people didn't decide to be awful by themselves, and a great many probably resisted until the party gained enough influence that they couldn't peacefully live their lives any longer. They were told that people were their enemy, that they were irredeemably evil and corrupt, and that their suffering and destruction were going to make the world a better place. With overwhelming pressure from a crushed economy, insistence from authority figures, and fear for their futures and the futures of their friends and families, they tapped into an animalistic, tribal, destructive mindset that we are all capable of.
Watch children. They gang up and pick on the weaker ones together with no feeling of compassion or remorse. They also experience life without the baggage that most adults carry around every moment.
That doesn't doom them to be awful humans. It does quite the contrary. They realize how bad they can be and eventually repent. It's the ones who never experience the tribalism that have trouble living their lives.
Of course, all of this is super generalized and without sources cited. BUT if you think and feel through the processes that people could experience, it's easy to imagine yourself standing across any aisle.

I often think in the terms you bring up here SW. It's not, a person, it's us - in our humanity. I look at Nazism and the Holocaust with interest partly because it was so horrific. But if you follow it through point by point historically, it was people just like me that went along with it. Very few could say I would rather die than that.

Also your example of kids comes to mind often because I have been exposed to abusive personality people in the last years. To me it looks like we all went through abusiveness as a stage in our development - teen years. Most of us abandon it as not a workable way to go through life. Some seem to be in an arrested state of development and hold onto it through life. The Verbally Abusive Relationship is a fantastic book for anyone interested.

Your reaction to someone's post has the same effect. If I don't agree with someone I don't have to ban them or delete the comments that I personally disagree with- I can swipe up. And ignoring someone means I don't just lose the ability to see the comments I disagree with it means that I will miss the chance to learn something of value from them.

See what were doing here... Were having an informative, level headed, multi point of view discussion concerning such things as hate and racism....TB is cool like that.

Nothing will create whirled pea's quicker than a good old fashioned stumpie-

OH MY GOD! HOW COULD YOU?! That hinge is not in the front one third? Horrible I tell you just horrible. :hola:

Out here in the west we often make deeper undercuts which makes it easier to get the weight of your tree moving into your undercut when pounding wedges.....Simply changing the COG and making the tipping point come on sooner...I myself frequently put my hinge near the centerline when ponding over trees..I am often tripped out by how shallow some of my east coast brothers make their undercuts. Then there are those who make the angled potion of their undercut first...Much like running as logs a bar as you can get away with for a given powerhead, versus running a short bar with a big powerhead, or how one sharpens their chain, there are definately regional differences brought on by different woods types and work environments....
