Bandit 250 clutch replacement

I was in the midst of possibly purchasing this chipper but the second day using it (only used it a couple hours the first day) the clutch went out. Any idea how much this cost to replace?

Dealer around me is closed for inclement weather.

Mmmmmm...enough to hurt. Was in a Chipper Safety and Maintenance class today put on by Cal-Line Equip. in Sacto. CA. Was a little hard to hear at that point (When you’re at a program with 135 other guys, no matter how cute or clever what you have to say to the guy next to you is, the other 133 guys are probably there to hear the presenter.) but I think they were saying that the parts on some clutches were in the few hundred up to seven hundred dollar range.

Next thing that I heard clearly was that most of us are engaging clutches improperly. Your supposed to do several or more ‘bump’ engagements to bring the flywheel up to speed before fully engaging clutch. The thing I used to do where you slide the clutch like you would on a vehicle is evidently a no-no and can burn up a ceramic clutch in very short order.

The fastest (and cheapest) way to find out is:

1) call seller, get serial number, full model #

2) call bandit, get their price for the clutch (just for fun), but GET PART #S

3) get on Google, eBay, Amazon and be amazed at how much cheaper you can do it yourself.

If you end up owning the machine, you're gonna wanna know it inside and out anyway...good way to start. I've fixed my 200xp many of times and I'll never complain about her. She's my baby.

Bump dont slip...slipping builds heat...im always on my guys about that. Every day is a new day. On a vehicle not much better...choose a lower gear to start in if you have it.

I replaced a twin disc clutch in my 186hp Morbark 2400, parts were around $500 best I remember. Fairly insignificant in the scheme of things.

Ya thanks for the help guys. Found parts and it's nearly $800 and the dealer had them the cheapest! Should I get a mechanic who is familiar working on choppers or would be safe to use my auto mechanic?
