Bald or just stupid

Saw this in my neighbourhood - would any of you have the balls to do this or, to put it another way, empty headed enough to do this? It went well but he hasn´t been able to put togethet enough nerve to remove the ladder yet.
Any better (or worse)?

I'm going to go waaay out on the limb here...

The picture sure looks humorous and dengerous too. But...it could be a proper way to access the top. If the base of the ladder is secured against slipping, what is the difference between being on the ground and off the ground? If the climber were secured while on the ladder, is it wrong?

Now, don't get me wrong :) I'm not advocating this setup. IF the fellow is doing a takedown, which it looks like, this is a very unsafe setup. The ladder is likely to get kicked out from underneath his feet leading to an accident.

The ladder was placed on two 2"X4" planks that was attatched to the stems with nails. The acrobat felled the top in one piece -- what do you think happened to the nail attachment when the stem swung back and fourth as the top fell. The guy was very lucky and I guess used big nails. It was not a professional, not even a hack but a homeowner trying to save some money.

Thh difference between bravery and stupidity is whether or not they survived. /forum/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Anyhow, I suppose it could work. I agree with tom, not something to advocate, at all.

Now, if we take a look at what they do on the high steel this isn't so far fetched a set up.

Anyway, I might be willing to retreive the ladder for him! Gotta be worth at least some $$ to get it back on the ground.

That is just incredible...... I did have a similer thing happen in my neiborhood, My 78 year old neibor wanted to save some money.... so he started to take his two 85' pines down. well he was doing pretty well, the two trees were about 10' from each other and he was ascending by nailing a 2x4 between the two climbing up and then nailing another one about 4' higher.... he was pulling the lower board off and leap-frogging it over the one he was standing on.... i guess that he did not think about getting back down... when he was about 70' he called his wife out to bring him some water (it was about 90*). well she freaked!! and then called the fire department, the fire department's ladder truck would not reach..... so my 78 year old neibhor was stuck up in his tree dehidrated for about 2 hours, til i came home from work and found all of the fire men drawing straws for who had to put on the one pair of linesman spikes that they had.
well i only ended up rescuing one old man that day, and the next Saturday i removed his trees for him. i only wish that i would have taken pictures.....

this is one of the good storys that i have about do-it-yourself tree work. most of the other storys dont end up with everyone smiling. Im just glad that the man on the ladder was able to enjoy his topped trees the next day :)

This guy obviously has some skills, I can't imagine how he got to all those cuts without falling or barberchairing. He must be a logger, no one else would have the audacity to do such a thing with a chainsaw. Perhaps more details will reveal some structure damage but from that one pic I'd say he did a great job, even saved the birdhouses. I'd love to get him in a rope-n-saddle and cram the A-300 into his head.

I once drove past a similar occasion in progress. I immediately stopped to find out what was going on. Ladders were set up in a pretty big eucalyptus tree. Mom had sent her young son on a money saving plan to remove the tree. He had no harness , just a few pathetic ropes dangling around. Seeing what was about to unfold , i forced the kid to come down the tree. I had no right, i was trespassing etc. but i had to do something. I told the Mom straight " get your Son out the tree right now, because he's going to kill himself , and get proffesionals to remove the tree". Funny enough it worked and i drove off feeling like a guardian angel !
