Bag, tarp bucket or Coil ?

Hey All,

Getting to be about time again to replace our rope toting containers. We've used Rope Bags, Rope Buckets and presently Laundry Bags.

The Laundry bags have worked well. We can see exactly what is in them. We can toss them into the front loading washing machine with the rope still in them. And we can hang them with the rope still inside to dry them.

Only real down side is that they are constantly getting snagged, getting little rips and you have to hold them open to flake the rope in.

Anyhow, we're looking at either replacing them, or, going to one of the other methods of storage/carry.

thought I'd ask what your preferences were. Tarps, Bags, Buckets, Boxes...whatever and why.

ThanX for your input!

My personal climbing rope goes into the Bashlin rope pack. Other ropes go into rope bags or five gallon square buckets from kitty litter.

Longer or larger ropes go into suit cases that are scavenged from the curb :) Pink ones work best...

I've found that the best rope storage devices are free or dirt cheap. You can find tons of great bags, buckets, and suitcases (yeah they work good) at second hand stores, yard sales, and dumpsters. You've already spent a ton of cash on your gear, a bag to put it in should not have to cost $20-$60.

I had one of those Bashlin bags and the stiff rods used to keep it vertical broke after a few months. For my climbing gear and ropes I prefer haul bags. I have two and they are both about 3 years old and are working perfectly. The cost is a bit more than the Bashlin bags but are built much heavier. Rigging ropes are in standard rope bags.

I use the Sherrill bags for my lines and kind of have a color coded system for them. Red is my climbing lines, green is my rigging lines, yellow is I guess either some rigging gear or a 1/2" line. In the past I have used those big like 15? gal or 20 gal buckets. If you have some BIG ropes, then you might do well to try them out.

Has anyone heard of these bags called "tree trunk". One of the arborist suppliers up north carries this stuff, wondering if anyone had any experience with them? Sure are pricey!!
I have two of those rope tarps that sherrill sells, don't really like them, if anybody out there is into the tarp I'll send them to ya. I perfer the rope bags that stand rigid.

we are lucky enough to have bags the same color as our ropes. each climber has his own rope- yellow, orange, black. lowering lines are blue and red, bull lines are in green. they are all 150' buckingham bags

I bag my climbing lines and coil the others and throw several in a plastic tub in the ManCab. My prefered rope bag is a small rectangular duffel bag with a squarish U zipper top opening.-Stands up/open for flaking in the line, zip it closed, stuff gloves, tress cords, and friction saver in the convenient seperate end pockets, grab the handles and go. They cost about $10 brand new.

Mac Equipment has the Tree Trunks. They are very nice. They don't have wheels so they are a bit of a chore to move. I know many climbers use travel luggage with wheels and a handle for their gear.
