Any guesses on this leaf? No fruit or pictures sorry. Alternate twigs, bark kinda like walnut bark and yellow wood with darker heartwood. I think simple leaves.
The leaf drawing and description of yellow wood sound like Cladrastis kentukea... Yellow-wood. But they have compound leaves and bark like a beech. Hm.
Hmm I looked at all those and none seem right. The leaves may have been compound but I didn't notice any stalks but everything was decomposed so they may have been after all. Thanks for the guesses.
Flipping through a book I realize that this leaf is very similar to a leaflet of a horsechestnut. Odd though, the bark definitely is not aesculus and I'm sure the twigs were alternate. Any more guesses?
