Arborwear

I have problems with my double knee tree climber pants. I have had success with arborwear in the past and have quite a few pairs of pants but I have one pair that the stitching has gone to crap. I haven't worn them that much and the crotch has been restitched on the zipper but now the whole crotch is starting to cut loose as well as the back pocket is coming undone. I know tree work is tough on pants but this particular pair is just falling apart and still looks pretty new. Has anyone else had these problems with any of the pants? I know treerat had some issues with his a while back. Maybe this was just a bad run or something I don't know.

I have not yet Tom. I was just wondering if anyone else had problems with this. I have no complaints over their products other than this one pair. I'm not bashing anyone I'm just curious. It's not going to turn me off from them either. I will have to do so Tom.

I'd had problems with two pair of arborwear pants. I heard the company had been sold so I'm just going to avoid them from now on.

You may have heard that Paul isn't working with AW now.

The only similar issue that I've had was with one of the prototype versions of Tech Pants. The material used for the crotch guesset didn't have the bias of the material lined up. The 'grain' was off angle to the material tore. In the production versions this was corrected.

None of my AW pants have ever failed me.

Here's a pair that is only torn where the double knee patches join the main pants. I do use my knees some while climbing yet the knees show no wear. I've got two pair like this. If someone from Arborwear want's to contact me I'm all ears. I think they were defective from the factory.

I don't work hard enough to wear out Arborwear pants, punk!

Seriously though......those pants are in fine shape except at those two spots.

were you carrying mad amounts of firewood or something?

We always found that the area above the patch was a wear point on Carhartt's doing trail and forestry work and tended to rip at the same point.

Nope, never carry massive amounts of firewood. These Arborwear pants are worn mostly for climbing. I've only had three pair of AW so maybe what I'm seeing is the normal wear out points. Seems a shame though as the rest of the pants are in great shape.

Those pants look worn from work not defective. Look at the uniform wear on both legs...and you say that other ones wear out the same? Kinda like wondering why the knees wear out on plain ol' blue jeans, the soles on your shoes/boots and not the uppers...on and on.

Many years ago my Mom worked at a Sear's catalog counter. A lady came in with some curtains and told her that they 'didn't fit' and she wanted her money back. Mom asked what she meant because it was obvious from the sun bleaching that they had been used for a long time. The lady explained that she had moved and the curtains 'didn't fit' her new windows. huh?! Mom said that she couldn't write a refund. the lady scooped up the curtains, stormed upstairs to Customer Service then made her way, via a side-trip, through catalog to wave her refund paperwork at Mom.

Is it right to expect a refund or compensation after reasonable wear and tear or normal use? Unless there is a lifetime guarantee in place, like handtools, I think not.

Tom I've uploaded a better photo. I don't see the uniform wear you are talking about. It does seem the kneees would show more wear as I do use my knees quite a bit climbing. I've only had two pair and they both ended up tearing and wearing out just above the double knees. The rest of the pants are fine. I wasn't aware that this is the normal wear out points....seems a shame.

Thanks for the info.

Uniform in the sense of repeated wear in the same place.

I haven't seen wear above the knee like that on any AW pants and rarely on other work pants. I'm guessing that there is something that you do that puts extraordinary wear on that part of the pants. Maybe not...but the wear is very unique.

Take a survey the next time you're out and about. Where do you see pants wearing out? Knees, butt and cuffs if they're too long. Keep looking until you see another pair of work pants that are worn in the same place as those. You could ask how they wore or maybe make a guess.

The index fingers on my gloves always wears out before the pinky finger. Not a surprise.

....and I'm a lefty but my right glove always wears out first in the finger tips.

I haven't complained before about my Arborwear but when the topic came up here at the buzz, I thought I'd share my experience.

I've not had other jeans wear in the pattern I'm seeing in these two pair of Arborwear. I'm guessing the material was either thin.....or defective in some way just above the knees.

Here's to polling people on the street about their worn out jeans!

It was just a joke, Tom. This thread was started by someone complaining about AW and all I did was post about my experience. How about putting away the boxing gloves?

I do like the AW pants and am going to contact the company. I like the 'cut' of the Arborware jeans and the double knees really do offer a lot of protection.

I have a pair of the light weight double-knee pants that did the same thing. Only on one side but he other side is ready to tear open as well. The crotch blew out too. Kinda embarrassing when you don't wear "wears".

Apparently it did not pass the "mom" test. I like the picture myself. It really shows off that girl's assets.
