The City of Champaign is accepting applications for an Arborist in the Public Works Department. The employee in this position will perform skilled and routine labor in the care of City-owned trees, shrubs, and related plants. The employee may lead a team to complete routine maintenance activities, on occasion. The selected candidate must demonstrate the City's organizational values of integrity, responsibility, respect, teamwork, and results in carrying out the job duties; and must also demonstrate excellent customer service skills. Responsibilities will include participating in the City's snow & ice removal efforts, as well as responding to other emergencies that may require working 12-hour shifts at all hours of the day and night.
The position requires a high degree of technical knowledge and skill in arboriculture. The successful candidate will be a certified Arborist with at least 3 years of experience in the field. Completion of a standard high school or trade school course is required. Prefer completion of a two or four-year course in forestry, horticulture, or a directly related field. Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is also acceptable.
Additionally, candidates must possess a valid driver's license issued by the State of Illinois and be able to obtain a Class B CDL with air brakes and tanker endorsement within 30 days of beginning work. Must be able to obtain an Illinois Ornamental and Right-of-Way Pesticide Applicator's License within 3 months of hire.
The beginning hourly rate of pay is $22.3063 with generous benefits. Applications must be received online no later than Tuesday, January 8, 2013.
