Arbor Camp in Sacramento CA

We just got back from Arbor Camp this weekend in Sacramento at the Boy Scout's Camp Pollack. It was the 1st Arbor Camp for the WC and it was also the 1st WC WOTT meeting. What an awesome weekend!!

It was great to meet the new ladies in our group. Thanks to all for coming out!! I'm so excited to see our group grow and to meet people that are passionate about trees!

The CAA sponsored our meeting with dinner and Sherrill Tree donated gift certificates and t-shirts. A big thanks to you both of your organizations for supporting us!! We really appreciate it!!

Also, a huge thanks goes out to the WC Men's Champ Chad Brey, who really made the weekend a blast for our group. He is a great teacher and very generous with passing on his knowledge and time. Thanks Chad!! By the way, he is also a member of our group.

I'll post pics tomorrow as soon as I downsize some of the megs.

I must agree that the first Arbor Camp here in California was great and indeed a wonderful experience had by all.

Awesome to see the women working hard and enjoying themselves. Way to get things rolling.

It is always a pleasure working with such tremendous cooperation my all the parties involved. Work parties rule.

The excercise we had climbing on Sunday was very interesting to say the least. It was nice to experiment with new ideas and explore the possibilities of some new and differtent ideas.

All in all we need to do this again soon!!!

RP,

I really liked the competition and I think if next time we try out the aerial rescue, limb toss, and knot station within the mix, it will be quite a show.
What was really cool about it was the peer judging. If you happened to make up some score sheets so that the points could easily be deducted or even added for finess/technique, I think that would be great for people to easily judge and for the climber to get a good critique to review.
Great job on competing yourself by the way!
See you at the TCC!! We'll be rooting you and Ned on!!

I'll be working on the refinement for the next time. We had to start somewhere. Thanks for you input.
We'll be supporting you also in the Competition. You go girl your a REAL woman otherwise known as a "RW". You showed everybody how determined you are at getting to the top of your field.
Great example of true guts...

Thanks RP! That's very nice of you, but let's face it, I do have a lot of work to do. I should be out training right now!

If you ever see me on the Buzz at this time, tell me to put down the lap top and hit the ropes!
See ya in SAC, and thanks again!

Nice Oxman!!

I'm still having technical difficulties with my pics, so I'll get the rest of mine up soon. I have some cool Scout pics too of all of us helping them out.

Those kids were truly amazing how they just went on up like it was a walk in the park.

In the real world, handsaws are used routinely without a second tie-in. In competition, a lanyard is required as a backup to the primary tie-in.

In the world of ANSI, American National Standards Institute, using a chainsaw requires a backup lanyard.

BTW, a cross post over in another category of the Buzz shows other comments and pics of this event, so check them out in this thread.

Here's another photo in the Valley Oak. It's Lori Romero, owner of Arbor Plus Tree Service.

A study session during the WOTT meeting. Copies of A Tree Climbers Companion, 2nd Edition, by Jeff Jepson were handed out to compare knots and techniques.

Another photo of this event appears in yet another cross thread, over at Recreational Tree Climbing: Does Anybody Climb Fo Fun Anymore, Page 24, containing "Idiot proof lock off" at: cross thread

The Boy Scouts planted 25 beautiful trees at Camp Pollock, provided by the Sacramento Tree Foundation. Al Remijn, Gordon Mann, and other arborists acted as Forestry Merit Badge Counselors, training the students in ecology.

Unfortunately, while they were planting, some clown hijacked the delivery truck.
