ANSI Z133 Public Comment period

On the point of the stats not supporting chainsaw protection aloft. I wonder if there are any stats showing how many of those that get hurt on the ground were climbers and thus not wearing the pants? Difficult, I know.
As for the heat argument, there are many professions that must wear protective clothing in situations of extreme heat, e.g., firefighters, and they don't have the option due to ambient temperature.

Ear protection: because a company opts for a comm system why should the employee then have to incur the additional expense for that piece of equipment? They could meet the letter of the law by buying cheap ear plugs or even their own muffs but then wouldn't have the comm system. The issue there is one of equipment hygiene. Might I suggest a policy of mandatory cleaning at the end of the shift to prevent an transmission of disease. You don't need to be a heavy sweater to contaminate a surface.

This is an old thread. 2011. I was doing a search.

my question is, How often are the standards discussed and re-written? I want to be a part of the next one and have two things hopefully included on bracing.

One of my suggestions I gave when it was too late and they were already to close to re-writing it; so it couldn't make that version. But I was told it should be included in the next one and to make sure I get involved.

When is the next one?

Cabling and bracing is in ANSI A300. I know that Dane Buell is the A300 chair but I don't know who's chairing that sub group

z133 is in about he middle of the revision process. Next meeting is in march or April in Baltimore

Bracing is Part 3 of the A300, unless it is more of a safety issue. It was just revised in 2013; previously in 2006. Few changes were allowed. Subgroup chairs are typically Bartlett employees. They handpick their subgroup members, and are extremely conservative. Change might mean revisions to training materials, and that would cost money.

Well that seems like a slow way to progress, or limit progression.

Yes, it works very well that way.

So anyway, you'll want to check the current part 3, see where your bracing methods fit in the 'shalls', and go from there.
