AMT friction saver prusik

What is the purpose for the smaller loop on the friction saver prusik in the attachment?
It appears as if it is there only to keep the ring attached to the friction saver which the adjustable hitch is already serving that purpose.

Ok, thanks.
I'm making a homey version but I don't think I'll need the small loop.
The final bury was a bitch!
I had to make the final bury in three different steps.

TMW is right...I cut mine off shortly after I got it, I like it better that way. Comes in handy for those long friction savers and smaller tie-in-points.

I don't use the set-up like you are describing. I use an adjustable false crotch. Similar in design, except it is done on a piece of 16-strand line. I use a steel carabiner for the large ring, and I have an aluminum ring spliced into some 3/8 hollow braid.

It is better than the two-ringed device, as you can open the carabiner up to reset you line and don't have to rethread the whole thing.

There are pictures of the setup in TCIA's Treeworker from a few years ago.

Nick, I don't think I would have the same adjustment with an eye to eye.
I still have to install the separate ring on an adjustable hitch.
This is to go around large trees instead of isolating a single limb.
I have a friction saver but it's too short to go around most large trees.
I've been trying to bury that remaining piece of cover for three days using everything from string to coat hangers to the splicing wand.
I finally did it in three stages using the splicing wand.
I read the other day that there's a machine to make the final bury, have you seen it operate?

[what???]. Search for friction saver on their site search.

There are a few un-user-friendly aspects of their site but the way they form links with javascript(!) and POST them to the server instead of using GET like a regular plain old HTML link (which is supposed to be used) has got to be the biggest pain the the rear. It prevents posting direct links to products, as you've noticed.
